you need a freezer that will operate at low temperatures, by that I mean outside temperatures. We have two upright freezers in our garage and both "switched off" last winter because it was so cold. I think that lower than 5 degrees does something to the refrigerant gasses and the freezer wont operate properly. We lost all our food. Google something like "freezers that operate at low temperatures". Otherwise, you will need to keep your garage warm which is what we had to do as a temporary measure!!

you've got me worried now, our Zanussi is in the garage and we have never knowingly had any problems with it. Bit worried I have just not noticed a problem as when it snows I can't usually get IN to the garage and shove as much as I can in the one in the kitchen instead.

Perhaps your garage is warmer than ours and you were OK?? Ours is detached so pretty cold!

I've got a Hotpoint RCNAA33P chest freezer in the garage. I did a lot of searching around at the time and this one was apparently suitable. It has lasted through the last two winters and seems to be running fine - hopefully will continue that way... Seems that most companies advise you not to put them in a garage though.

it may invalidate your 1 year guarrantee and I suspect you couldnt claim on house insurance for contents spoiled if it broke down while in garage

Our fridge/freezer in the garage switched itself last winter. We had to cart it into the dining room and it's been there ever since!

Definitely buy one suitable to go in the garage. Sorry, I can't recommend!

we have fridge/freezer zanussi in the semidetached garage without any problems. the garage is not heated and i think it was easily below +5 last two winters... hmmm you made me think now, but i do not think we will be moving it anywhere from the spot it is currently in

ours has always been fine (but in lean-to rather than garage - it gets pretty cold in there but not, I don't think, down to freezing) - no idea if it was sourced especially to go there, as the previous owners left it behind. Sorry, that's not helpful, is it?
