How to remove vomit from my car? Help please.

I hope someone out there can give me some advice on this one. My darling DS1 vomited all over the back seat and carpet of my (fairly new) car on Sat eve. I did a quick fix clean on Sat eve with a mixture of baby shampoo and tea tree oil. I then, on Sun morn, bought half of Halfords stock, including Shampoos, disinfectants, dangly air fresheners. I've given it a good going over yesterday and while the seat is prob getting better, the carpet still retains a bit of a pong.
Anyone got any suggestions/ products/techniques/etc? Will the smell fade over time?

I'm usually a baking soda/ lemon juice/tea tree oil kinda girl ,but am happy to use anything that works!

I've had a similar problem in a bedroom carpet - which I think would be similar. I looked online and did the copious soapy water (bio detergent) - wet through the carpet, then remove water by dabbing with a towel, repeat several times until the smell is gone. Make sure its not sodden each time by removing as much of the dampness as possible with fresh towels. Then sprinkle over baking soda on the damp carpet and leave to dry. Hoover, poss repeat the baking soda. Check pong - if its still there then repeat process!

Use carpet power carpet cleaner then sprinkle with neutradol powder Hoover and the smell will go

I used baking soda on some spilled milk and it worked a treat.

I would suggest as others do and then get a professional valet to make it complete.

Ta everyone! I was planning a bicarb attack (or Shake N' Vac type thing...Do they still make that??)

My poor 8 year old just kept apologising..bless him. (I banned eating in this car due to state of previous car!! ) So he was mortified! I told him not to worry as it was partly my fault for pushing him so fast on the roundabout thingie at the playground!! Whoops!

I shall try all of above suggestions. (I'm not sure what smells worse , the undertone of vomit or the hideous over powering artifical smells from the dangly air fresheners!!)

I did this once in a hire car. Have you pulled the seatbelt out fully and given that a clean as anything on it will have recoiled back into the mechanism.

I tried shake'n'vac, bicarb and shampooing but the smell remained. The only thing that worked for me was pouring soda water over the affected areas (the seat, the footwell and the seatbelt), leaving it a while and then blotting with towels.
