Mopping the Floor!

We have a tiled floor in the kitchen and then lino in the bathrooms.

At the moment i have one of those spongey squeegy things where you push a bit down on the handle and it folds the sponge to push out the water.

It never gets enough of the water out so my floors are always left damp and then take an age to dry - esp. on colder days!

What do you all use? Would a more "traditional" mop and bucket be better?

I use a rag mop and normal bucket. Had one like yours and had same problem, hated it as the floor was always wet for hours and streaky afterward. So I can recommend a rap mop.

Sorry a rap mop sounds great but meant rag mop. :)

I too would recommend a rag mop and a bucket with one of those bits to twist it in. I have a wood floor so can only use a barely damp mop. This works well for me.

You can also get them with slightly rubbery bits near the top for scrubbing at more stubborn stains.

I use a microfibre mop from B&Q.They do 2 types a 'raggedy' head one and a flat one for tiles.They are both good at leaving the floor nearly dry.

If my floors take ages to dry I dry them with an old towel on my hands and knees.

I use a microfibre cloth mop like this but mine was about £10 from asda.

its fab.... the best mop iver ever used. If you ring it out well the floor dries in no time at all.

the mop cloth then goes in the washing machine, and waits dry in my cupboard for the next time. My cloth head is about 5+ years old and still good as new, and doesnt smell or get mouldy over time like almost all other mops.

most £ shops have fluffy blue mop covers which are fab for dry dusting the floor before you mop.

String mop and traditional bucket will do the job best, no fancy stuff here! I finish by stepping on 2 old cloths and "skating" round on them to dry the floor.

Very very hot water - it drys better and much quicker the hotter the water is. TBH I use rubber gloves and get down on my hands and knee's and wash the floor over with a little bleach or floor cleaner and very hot water - thus the rubber gloves to not burn my hands. Then put the cloth in the washing machine

Microfibre mop. Just fab.

Sponges and rag mops are SO PASSE. Microfibre is the only way to go.

I do the same as Ivy. If you use very hot water then it'll dry much more quickly.

same as nannyl and I use "Direct to floor" cleaning stuff, Dettol or Adsa rip off.

No bucket, squirt direct from bottle, clean floor, remove head, chuck in wash. Have several spare heads. Dries very quickly.

Mine was originally a Lakeland one, had it 10 years.
