Do you use pillow 'undercovers'?

NormaSnorks · 07/09/2011 18:08

i.e. a thin pillowcase under your main pillowcase...

I do, because my Mum did, but sometimes I just wonder if it isn't a bit excessive Blush

It does seem to stop the pillows getting dirty covers though?

yes i use a combo of pillow protectors (usually quilted a bit) or a couple of pillowcases over each other. pillows don't get as dirty

MoaningMcMyrtlepants · 07/09/2011 18:14

Yup! as my pillowcases get old and I buy new ones the old ones become under ones.

bigTillyMint · 07/09/2011 18:15

Yes. The pillow gets dirty very quickly otherwise.

Bonsoir · 07/09/2011 18:18

Yes!

Pillows get very disgusting because a lot of sweat and dribble soaks into them every night. An extra layer of protection helps keep your pillows fresh. But you should buy new ones quite often anyway.

Mandy2003 · 07/09/2011 23:08

No but I wish I did!

Beamur · 07/09/2011 23:10

Yep, I have those quilted ones - helps keep the pillows a bit cleaner and also if you have feather or down, it stops the filling escaping so much. I change them probably ever other time I change and wash the top pillowcases.

wellwisher · 07/09/2011 23:18

Yes, I do too - would feel wrong not to!

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 07/09/2011 23:20

I do, mainly before all the boys in my house have very sweaty heads at night (tidemarks on the pillow each morning)

ChippingIn · 07/09/2011 23:20

Yes :)

suzikettles · 07/09/2011 23:22

No, but our pillows are horrible and I'm going to buy all new ones the next time I see any on a good offer.

And when I do I will use undercovers thanks to this thread - I think my mum does actually, I'd just never thought about it.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 07/09/2011 23:34

Yes - mine are allegedly anti-dustmite as well as protecting the pillow from moisture.

I am guilty of not having replaced the pillows for ages, though. Must get onto that.

AngelDog · 08/09/2011 21:53

Yes - 2 or 3 under pillows on DH's pillow as they seem to get smelly so quickly!

I don't think I've ever replaced pillows Confused - I just wash them.

mistressploppy · 08/09/2011 21:54

Yes, the quilted protector ones because I sweat like a biatch and have really minging greasy hair too

GrimmaTheNome · 08/09/2011 21:55

Yes - doesn't everyone?

LemonDifficult · 08/09/2011 21:56

Agree that it's a bit excessive. My MiL does on hers because they are old and a bit gross. Better to buy new pillows fairly regularly.

After 15 years a pillow is substantially more dead skin than feathers. Bleurgh.

nannyl · 09/09/2011 08:19

yes
i have pillow protectors on every pillow (and mattress protectors on every bed)

The pillow protectors on our bed gets washed about once a month - 2 months depending on weather i will be line drying that day!
The protectors on the spare beds are done once a year, but only slept in for a few nights at a time, a few times a year.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 09/09/2011 08:22

Yes, always.

And I buy new pillows once a year.

ZZZenAgain · 09/09/2011 08:24

no i don't , never heard of them before

ZZZenAgain · 09/09/2011 08:24

what is a pillow protector (as opposed to a second pillowcase) made of?

Nagoo · 09/09/2011 08:31

yes, DH is a sweaty bastard.

LunaticIsOnTheGrass · 09/09/2011 08:44

I don't, but I think I will now.

Bloody good idea. Cheers Smile

nannyl · 09/09/2011 08:46

ZZZ made of the same materials as mattress protectors.

some are just that thin stuff that they use for packaging (like thin mattress protectors) and others are quilted, like quilted mattress protectors

ZZZenAgain · 09/09/2011 08:47

might look into it, thanks

upahill · 09/09/2011 08:48

Yes of course!

LordOfTheFlies · 09/09/2011 09:42

Mine are waterproof with terry towelling on the outside (so they don't get sweaty) and a zip at the end.
And I throw pillows out when they get saggy.
