Protecting wooden worktops in kitchen

Just wondering what people do to protect their wooden worktops.

We have just moved and our new house has them, i want to try to look after them, but dont know what products to use.

Normally i just wipe them down with a damp cloth, but do i need some wax every few weeks?

every 12 months sand and rewax

they are very sturdy inbetween and you can be brutal with them
