White vinegar

I've just recently discovered the joys of cleaning with distilled white vinegar.

My favourite discoveries are streak-free windows/mirrors with vinegar and newspaper (why does that work, btw? ), and my Magican can-opener suddenly looking like new after soaking for 15 minutes then scrubbing with a toothbrush.

I find myself now when faced with something that needs cleaning thinking 'hmm, I wonder if a bit of vinegar will do it?'

What are your favourite uses for vinegar, and will any type of vinegar do, or does it have to be distilled white vinegar?

i use the tesco own brand clear vinegar. not sure what it is but its sold for food.

I use it instead of fabric softener.
also if clothes smell sweaty then i spray it on that bit, wait a few mins, then switch machine on, and they smell fine afterwards.

also for descaling in hard water areas.

I use Sainsburys Basics one (which is brown) because it is only 13p a bottle, doesn't seem to matter that it is brown not clear. I descale the shower head by unscrewing it and putting it in a jug of vinegar overnight, then stick the vinegar in the loo to shift any limescale there. It's also good for just about anything involving limescale, although I use citric acid for the kettle because it is less smelly. I use it for vases, windows, whatever. Just don't get vinegar on enamel, it will attack it.

Agree - white vinegar is great and so cheap. Fantastic at limescale and we live in a very hard water area.
