better to use

  1. old T shirt material (might be hard to sew??)
  2. some of DH's old shirts (possibly too thin??)
  3. an old towel (possibly too thik?)

Any thoughts? This is my first real sewing attempt (on the machine)!

Cut off the legs of denim jeans or cords. then you only need to sew up the ends.
You can also use rice to fill them :)

my mother uses tshirts and uses double layers.

Oh I do have old jeans too. Might try one in demin and one in Tshirt material and see which I prefer.

Can't believe I typed thik - how thick! Blush

The one I bought is made of 100% fleece (like cheap sweatshirts).
