Putting raw veg waste in the garden bin?

We don't have the brown kitchen waste bins in our area, but we do have green bins which are supposed to be for grass cuttings,plant waste,weeds,small twigs etc... I can't get a sensible answer out of the council about why i can't put veg waste & peelings in there. I already put things like pea pods and cabbage leaves in there because i figure if i did grow those veggies then that might be my garden waste!
I wonder if they don't do it to keep it clear cut, because if they say veg waste is allowed that means people might end up putting other food in there.

Yes I think so. They'd rather have clearer rules that everyone gets than get every last apple core.

Our 'green bins' take cardboard, garden and kitchen waste all mixed up, but I think it's a different comPosting process.

Greenest is to compost it yourself in a dalek, if you've got space.

I agree it would be greener to compost it myself IF I grew my own veg and much as I would love to I don't have time.
I can't see any reason why all veg waste can't go in the garden bin, but the council don't seem to want to allow it but won't say why. My concern would be that i was 'spoiling' the load, but that can't be it otherwise they would have said so.

We can put all kitchen waste in our brown bin - including bones, meat etc.
