Are bean bags any good? Worth it?

Hi, the topic question, really. I saw a sofa-bean bag at friends, and it was comfy to sit on. Thinking to get one for my conservatory, mostly thinking of my two children, who could use it when playing or watching TV. Or maybe relax there myself instead of sitting on dining type chairs (a proper sofa wouldn't fit in there). What do you think? Have you got one and perhaps have any advice for me? Thanks..

We bought one thinking it was comfy/mobile/versatile.

In reality it was a PITA, noisy when one of the DCs sat in it (all that fidgeting) it got dirty very easily and was a right arse to clean.

We gave it away to my sister, who used it in the garden once then her dog cocked it's leg over it so she binned it!

In a word, No.

They also explode and leave millions of little polystyrene balls all over your house for years to come.

I binned mine quite quickly, the noise when the kids sat in it when watching tv caused an argument every time!!

Would say no to sofa size

We have a couple of beancubes in the lounge and the dc sit on em to waych television or I use them for footstools, they are fab Grin

Wow, so quick so many No's! The one I saw at friends didn't seem to make any noise, maybe it was real beans? :) But I already changed my mind about getting one..

We have sofa size from Next. Dc love it (so do I when I get the chance!) but does need extra refills of 'beans' occasionally.

My mother has a chair called The Bean which is inflateable.
Never tried it but she loves it.

(Wouldn't buy an inflateable myself as I'm sure it would come to harm with my DS. Alot of my inflateable beds have bitten the dust over time. Can't blame DS for all of them though- one got too near a radiator)

I have a fatboy bean bag and bloody love it.

princessbabycola · 28/03/2012 22:24

I have a fatboy bean bag too and love it! This blog shows how stylish and comfortable they can be www.funkyoutdoorbeanbags.com/beanbags

fromheretomaternity · 28/03/2012 22:26

They are bad for posture and hence for backs long term

JasperJohns · 28/03/2012 22:29

We bought two mahoosive (expensive) suede-type bean bags for the dcs at Christmas to have in their playroom.

By Boxing Day, a visiting child had launched himself onto one from a great height so many times, it had split, covering house in polystyrene balls.

My ds has got one (called The Slab I think?) - the ones on this link look familiar, but the company name seems different. (I think it is the same company though)
bean bags
No problems whatsoever with ds beanbag so far (3+ years) - he crashes on it every day.

At least you can use them for storing spare textiles in. Mine gets used for stuff that needs ironing some time in the future

CuriousDad84 · 18/01/2022 07:22

Just bumping this thread to see if anyone has bought from here before?

www.bigberthaoriginal.com/

Thinking of getting a couple for the kids bedrooms and not sure if any safety considerations?

WhoppingBigBackside · 18/01/2022 17:50

I have a big bertha but it's old

I love my bean bags. I have a huge one but it's not a sofa one.

Get one you can wipe clean or that has an inner bag. If you have a spillage, use a rubber broom to sweep them

altiara · 20/01/2022 01:13

Mine’s brilliant. Bought it for the dog but it was too full of beans for him to squidge. It’s really supportive and comfortable. Bought kids one each as well.

BoatisBoatShirley · 20/01/2022 01:23

Nooo don’t do it. They’re a pain in the neck to clean and if there is ever an opening for any reason you will find little white balls everywhere forever.
