New Dishwasher recommendations? Bosch?

Slightly limited question I know, but our dishwasher broke and will be replaced on the insurance. Bosch seemed to come out well in the Which reports, so I thought we'd ask for one of those but each one Which recommends seems to have some downside/negative report somewhere.

We only ever really used the old one on the 'quickwash' cycle, so if your dishwasher works well on that then please let me know... or any other recommendations would be great. :)

Hi, we have a bosch, don't know the model apart from it's got Exxcel on the front. - it's the only one we've ever had, we got it 4 years ago when DS was a few months old. never had any problems whatsoever with it and we only ever use the economy cycle, which takes 39mins. Not sure what else to say about it really, it does the job Grin. As you can tell am not a dishwasher expert, but if you have any questions, feel free to post again and I'll recheck after DCs in bed.

My built in hotpoint was an eBay bargain 5 years ago and is fine. Had an indesit one that lasted 9 years prior to that.
All other White goods are Bosch though and if the dishwasher did go, I would probably look to get a Bosch one (due to better guarantee and energy ratings compared to other makes).

We got a bosch one about 18 months ago. Up till this one, we've always used the quick cycles, but one of the reasons we bought this one was the low water/low energy consumption, so we always use the eco option - which does take ages, but that's not an issue for us generally.

Sorry I can't tell you the model no, it's built in.

Great though, and very very quiet. Actually laughed when the designer showed us the light shining out from under it to tell you it is on, but it is so quiet, that's actually the only way you can tell!

Oooh cadifflur I like the sound of your efficient 39 min cycle. If you can see a serial number then please let me know - although they seem to be about 9 digits long, so perhaps unlikely they'd print it on the front. Grin

Just heard from the insurer's suppliers today. After deciding there wasn't an equivalent model to what I had and my turning down their offer for a currys/comet voucher (I said I'd rather shop at John Lewis as they seem less overpriced), they said that they'd have to send me a cheque then, but it'd need to come through the insurers, but it'd be for £670! Shock I'm stunned, but v pleased. :)

we have a Bosch Logixx SMS69L02 which has a 29 minute quick cycle. You can also use a speed wash on the other cycles that can cut them in half e.g. instead of the Eco cycle taking 2hr 20mins, it will take 1h 10mins instead. We have had it for 1 1/2 years so far with no problems. It is also incredibly quiet and I sometimes have to cheack if I have turned it on or not!

Oooh, Seona, a speedwash sounds good. Is it as effective at washing? If so it makes you wonder why they design 3 hour programmes in the first place.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. Its good that people have had good experiences with Bosch. :)

Make sure the Bosch you buy is made in Germany. Some of them are now being made in Turkey and the quality is inferior by all accounts.

I love my (German made) Bosch.

I have a Bosch and have been disappointed with the standard of the wash and the fact it just does not get the stiff remotely dry.

When I next buy any White goods the will be Miele if I can afford it. It sounds like you could and they are second to none.

Hevian, thanks, thats good advice, but how will I be able to tell if its made in Germany or not?

Skiing - I have heard they're good, but also very heavy? Not that it needs to move often, but not useful when it does need to be moved. :(

Leeloo, the shop we bought from was able to tell us. We did check what they were saying but to be honest I can't remember how. The German made ones are slightly more expensive. Go to John Lewis...they'll tell you.

have had a Bosch for nearly 13 years, only just starting to fall apart. Would definitely buy another or a Siemens (same company). (By the way ours would have been one of the cheaper models)

the 29 minute cycle only does a wash i.e. doesnt have a drying cycle included. I only use the speed cycle if the dishes are freshly dirty (i.e. havent got dishes sitting from the day before with dried on foods) and it works fine for them. I tend to stick it on at night on the Eco cycle which takes over 2 hours - I occasionally have to rewash a pot where dh has burned stuff to the bottom but the dishes/cutlery come out clean. Mine has the cutlery tray in the top of the machine which frees up space on the bottom rack. Have no idea if ours is German or not!

On a more serious note, how do you find the cutlery tray on the top? That style was given an iffy review by Which:

"The VarioDrawer cutlery tray sits at the top of the dishwasher and it's very easy to access for loading and unloading. But it's not as simple as it looks when it comes to working out how to fit your cutlery into it - some items need to be lined up quite precisely to avoid dislodging adjacent items, and the process can be rather time-consuming."

I liked the look of the model, but don't want to spend ages lining the knives up.

The only Bosch made in Germany now is the Loggixx, I have just bought one from JL and I love it. Think it is the same one as someone else mentioned further up. It is V quiet, quick cycle is 29 mins and is fine for most dishes.

The only thing I dont like is the cutlery tray, I am used to a basket and I cant get used to the tray. Sure it will become second nature after a few more months, only had it 2 months. Have always had Bosch dishwashers, they seem to last a long time. My last one must have been about 9 yrs old at least.

We have a Neff SD11XIF made in Germany. It is an integrated dishwasher but I imagine they have someting similar that doesn't need a door fitted. Has 36 min wash and dry cycle and we almost never use the longer options. Standard cutlery basket. It is very quiet when running. Has been great for the 3 years we have had it so far.

We've got the one with the Vario drawer, and I think it's great, loads more room in the bottom shelf for pans etc, and cutlery is separated so seems to wash better. Also safer than having knives poking upwards.Only the more expensive Miele's have the separate drawer now, and even the top model Bosch is still miles less expensive.

Also quiet, nice touch panel controls. Seems to DRINK salt and rinse aid but that could be due to our water.

if you have soft water you can reset the controls so that it uses less rinse aid/salt (we have nice soft scottish water). I like my cutlery drawer and have certain sections that I use for each type of cutlery - makes it easier when putting the cutlery away again too. Our controls are on the top of the door so can only be accessed by opening the door. It also means you dont accidentally press against the buttons when it is in use (dh use to lean on them and stop the cycle by accident!)

Have had a Miele and a Bosch and nothing beats the Miele even though it is basic. If they have given you close to £700 to replace I would seriously consider one

Oh gosh yes...I've just read that you have £700 to spend. Miele are the dogs' bollocks. I've never had one but friends & family have.

Are miele that good?

Will be moving soon and may need to replace a kitchen....

We had a bosch washing machine when we first moved in here and it was rubbish...the front panel needed replacing after only 18 months and it was really noisy and the cycles took ages!!!

I wouldnt have a bosch again but my MIL loves her bosch dishwasher.
