I live in a small flat which we are trying to sell. The carpets aren't bad but they've seen better days. The carpets are a cream colour. I would like to get a rug for my living room but do not know where to begin with colour or size. Is there a standard formula for how much area needs to be between the rug and the furniture? I have a deep red feature wall and it has a Jackson Pollock picture on it so I don't want a rug with a pattern. Do I go for a chocolatey brown (I have a dark piano in the room) or a light rug?
