House fly infestation

IN the kitchen area is driving me insane!!! I have read up and looks like screens over the door are the only answer. I have also bought one of those outdoor fly catcher bags but need to get it up asap.

You honestly cant work in the kitchen for the amount of flies. I have three sticky papers in a cone which do really well, one commercial zapper but over night it doesnt seem to shift them.

I love cooking and baking but this is ridiculas you cant function its discusting.

Sadly going to have to revert to chemicals - any good brands?

Any other good tips please. (Please no answers on emptying bins, cleaning etc)

are they definitely just coming in through open doors and windows, or could they be coming from inside a nest in your wall cavity/chimney, or from maggots in rotting food in your kitchen sink drain - my friend had this, she could not work out where they were coming from till she saw one come out the plughole! - we had a hibernation nest in the chimney and it was grim, we had literally 100s and 100s of them, dying all over the place too, bleurgh!

I personally would not use sprays in the kitchen area. We have the velcro screen, window stickers and fly papers.

Whereabouts are you? In the UK? We had this problem a few weeks ago, and I was starting to get really paranoid about something disgusting rotting away somewhere in the house But I searched everywhere - and whilst ds2s bedroom was pretty revolting - nothing was to be found! They just seemed to be coming in through open windows and doors now that the weather is (marginally) warmer.
I got things that look a bit like those kid-on stained glass window stickers from our local hardware shop - in the shape of flowers and bees, they've got stuff in them that gets rid of flies and other winged beasties, and I stuck them to windows and patio doors. Seem to be helping

Yeh in UK. They are deff coming through the windows and doors but impossible to keep shut in this weather.

The fly papers/sticky are excellent but sure that many flies have caught on now and they fly around but never land. I have one above the cooker hood, one above the units, one on window sill, one poision paper on top of hood and one on window.

Last night must of had 30 buzzing around the cooker area.

Unfortunately only some kind of spray is going to make it safe cooking in there. this cant be hygenic at all!

Blimey, that's a serious amount of beasties! I'd actually be thinking about getting some proper advice from a pest control company if I was you.

We're having the same problem, we leave the french doors open so the dog can come and go (she's 14 and when she needs to go she needs to go). We can have probably 10 flying around at any one time.

DH has gone to war on them, we've got fly paper up, he uses fly spray in the dining end of the kitchen and he's bought a battery power bat that zaps them.

Word seems to have spread, you only have to pick the bat up now and they scarper.

If you have more than a few flies and find them dead in the morning in the house they could be cluster flies.
They hibernate in lofts and cavity walls etc and then migrate into the actual house when the weather warms up.

No its not cluster its defo house flies. We are on a farm so that doesnt help. Anywhere in the countryside seems to attract them.

I bought some fly spray by Rentokill and doenst seem to kill them on the spot like it said. Should of bought stronger stuff on the net.

Its impossible to keep doors and windows shut, will look into mesh for windows for next years.

My MIL suggested one of those multi coloured blinds , there must be a more attractive alternative though that still lets the dog/dc out.
