Washing machine upstairs?

Does anyone have a washing machine upstairs i.e. next to the bedrooms where you take off your clothes / change the bed sheets? It struck me today that it would be so much easier - no more lugging the laundry basket downstairs and carrying folded clothes back up etc. We don't have space :(

Our friends did this, put the tumble on top of the washer, built a cupboard round them behind the door to the ensuite (for drainage). It's only a 700x700 cupboard. They love it!!

My ex bosses did this.

(Previouse home owners had made 2 enourmouse rooms into 1 completely huge bathroom, so they turned one of the rooms into a laundry room, and still had a family bathroom larger than most peoples bedrooms!)

It was great. And meant we didnt have to keep taking clothes / sheets up and down the stairs.

Not so great if you line dry, but they didnt, and used the dryer for everything.

The ironing board was always up and ready to go in the laundry room too. It made much more sense and worked really really well. They put a sink in there too which could be used to soak stuff etc

A great idea if you have the upstairs space and plumbing avaliable

Yes, when I was little our family home had an upstairs utility room and my Mum loved it! Had washing machine, tumble dryer and sink and was so much easier in terms of managing the laundry. Do it!

I think this is quite common in some places abroad.

We had this in one of the houses I worked in - they turned an unused shower room into a laundry room. No lugging washing up and down the stairs, but like nannyl, they didn't line dry - they either used the tumble dryer or hung things on hangers from a rack fixed to the ceiling.

I have not had that situation but my son and DIL did. It made perfect sense, up there with clothes, bedding and towels. They had a plastic tray under the washer so if it leaked it didn't go anywhere. I always think the laundry should be by the bedrooms. Often it is by the garage, not good, but a step up from in the garage. If a woman designed the house, it would be by the bedrooms.

we do - it's in the spare room . We had to put it upstairs as when we moved the kitchen only had space for either a washing machine or dishwasher, and we wern't giving up either . We took out a sink in one bedroom and got a washing machine plumbed in. Great for washing but not so great for getting things outside to dry. Also very noisy and the whole of the upstairs floor shakes when it's on spin cycle - you can eve feel the bath shake if you're in it when washing machine is on spin

I did in my old house - we used the tiny box room for it - it was brilliant! I was quite sad when we had our kitchen redone and dh managed to incorporate them into the kitchen

we did it. Have a lundry room at the top of the house (3 stories) under a lot of veluxes. No need to line dry the stuff dries with the windows open in a flash. But you do need space to line driers.

We can hear it around the hosue on spin, but only very gently and I quite like it.

My parents did - and loved it. They didn't line dry but used airers over the bath or put stuff over the banisters. (or just used the dryer.) My Mum doesn't understand why it isn't standard in all homes. Sometimes you could hear it at night but after a while it was just another of those noises you slept through.
