how often do you have your carpets cleaned?

I have a vax and do them every 2 or 3 months when the general muckiness is hiding the colour of the carpet.

Cream carpets + 3 dcs + 2 cats + 2 dogs = stupid idea and much cleaning required.

The vax has been worth the initial outlay because I wouldn't have them professionally cleaned as frequently as I vax them.
