Do you own a chip pan?

I'm hankering after proper chip pan chips like my mum use to make when we were kids.

Does anyone own a chip pan these days? Would I even be able to buy one?

If you have one the fire service will swap it for a deep fat fryer for free. In other words, they're hard to come by as dangerous.
My Mum got hers from a market years ago, I just use a normal pan when doing home made chips, it's the metal sieve thing that is useful though.

Hmm the fire brigade will come out? Want one for a whole new reason now Wink

No. We very rarely eat chips. I got rid of mine years ago because the house smelt like a chip shop for days afterwards every time I used it. I was never happy using it anyway, and I don't miss it.

Yes I have a chip pan.Is that bad?
It's a large non-stick sauce pan which I half fill.
I've got a chip-pan basket from Ikea.
Every time its used I filter the oil back into the bottle through a coffee filter.
Pan and basket go through dishwasher.
I wouldn't have room for an electric fryer.

Now I could make my Heston Blumenthal chips for the Firemen and noway would they take my chip pan away.
Disclaimer:wild horses won't take me away from the cooker when the chip-pan is on.
