Has anyone used an interior designer?

I want to redo our bedroom, keep the wardrobes, carpet and chest of drawers but get a new bed and bedhead, plus curtains, bedding, and possibly one wall papered. I'm thinking blue and cream and I don't want too many fussy bits (throws and cushions all over the bed type of thing). Has anyone used an interior designer? Are they hideously expensive? What I need is someone who know where to buy things like the bedhead/ bed, who has really good taste and prefers TK Maxx to House of Fraser, I don't think any of my friends fit the bill, so wondered about getting someone in but I am worried about feeling pressured into spending hideous amounts of money on stuff thats not worth it (don't mind spending decent amounts on the curtains, bed, wallpaper etc,)

We used one for our living room - it's a big room and we didn't want to get colours wrong, so it made sense. She designed us a mood board and rough costings for what she was planning - a lot of designers will work on 10-20% of the budget. Money well spent IMO since it meant it wasn't me/DH arguing over what we wanted but someone else's idea of what would actually work.
