what is a good carpet shampooer?

I have rather middle agededly and sadly decided to spend my birthday money on a carpet shampooer, started looking but tbh no idea where to start. do you have one, is it good? would you recomend?

No domestic machine will be anything like as good as getting a professional clean unfortunately. They are just not powerful enough and leave a film of scum in the fibres which subsequently attracts more dirt over time making them look even worse. If you get one, always do a second run over with it using clean water only after the inital shampoo/rinse. Twice the work but much better for the carpet. Get the most powerful suction you can afford.

my advice would be rent one from homebase/bnq and see what you think of it. it'll do a better job then the ones you can buy at currys so just think if you can't get your carpets cleaned to a satisfactory level then don't bother buying a machine, but if the results are ok enough that you're happy then look for one that seems the best for your budget.

not sure the exact costs but as far as i was aware renting was around £40 from bnq so not too to find out before making a mistake
