I find Andrex bog roll creates much dust. We live fairly near a busy road & I blame that too.

Katisha · 13/05/2011 18:28

Take your contact lenses out - works a treat for me.

LynetteScavo · 13/05/2011 18:29

We moved from the center of town to the suburbs. I've gone from constantly dusting to never dusting.

Apart from the TV, which is always dusty (and has finger marks on the screen), but I never notice until MIL comes round.

AnnoyingOrange · 13/05/2011 18:31

mine is extra dusty recently. I think it's all the pollen in the air. My car had a thick layer of dust on it the day after it was cleaned

Tortoise · 13/05/2011 18:43

Loads of dust in my house too. 4 Children and 2 dogs probably doesn't help!

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/05/2011 19:36

I bought a vacuum cleaner with a cloth bag that filters what the vacuum throws out eg the warm air that comes out the back and I found that helped a lot.

It was a panasonic one but mil gets the same type of bag for her vacuum cleaner too.

I found the bagless ones more dusty tbh

Hate dust, trying to keep it to a minimum is like fighting a losing battle!

Cutiecat · 14/05/2011 09:01

We have got builders in at the moment and the dust is unbearable. I am fighting a losing battle. In normal situations i thought dust was predominately dead skin and carpet fluff. Yuck.

TooManyBlossoms · 14/05/2011 09:11

Light coloured furniture. We've just redecorated the living room and now have light oak furniture rather than the dark wood we had before. Bingo, no dust! although I know it's still there, I just can't see it

Those black glass tv stands are the work of the devil - as you're dusting them the dust is flying straight back on.

CoffeeIsMyFriend · 14/05/2011 09:57

my dogs cause lots of dust - combine that with pollen at the moment and I am fighting a losing battle.

Last weekend DH came home with an air purify thingy and it has really helped a lot. DAmp dusting works too.

I move house a lot, typically every two or three years. I have noticed that some houses are just naturally dustier than others. I once moved to a different house in the same street. First house, normal dustiness, second house, ridiculously dusty.

Thankfully my current house is normal dusty, except for my bedroom which is dusty again immediately, must be all my aged dead skin sloughing off, now there's a nice thought.

DonaAna · 15/05/2011 10:05

Get rid of all extra fabrics inside - carpets, curtains, rugs, woolen throws. This will dramatically decrease the amount of dust. Another thing to try is to take of outdoor shoes and use house shoes. E-cloth is also wonderful.

CoffeeIsMyFriend · 15/05/2011 11:12

dona glad you didnt mention getting rid of pets! I am pretty sure my house would decrease in dust if we didnt have the dogs and cat in the house.

I cant have wooden floors upstairs - too many pipes under floorboards, but I agree anything 'fluffy' is a dust magnet.

Celibin · 15/05/2011 15:11

Me too Apart from Tv screens, mirrors etc i just wipe with a damp cloth as nothing else seems to work.Caused by increase in road traffic

sarahfreck · 16/05/2011 15:57

My flat has cheap synthetic carpets ( ex-rental property) and I think these are slowly disintegrating causing dust. Try dragging something plastic like a ruler (causes static for fibre to cling to) across the carpets and look for very tiny lengths of fibre.

I really want to replace my carpets ( especially in my bedroom) but I can't afford it atm!!
