Smelly washing machine....

As the title suggests, my washing machine smells like something crawled in and died. I've tried the obvious things - cleaned the gunk out of the seal, and run a boil wash with white vinegar. Neither of these has helped.

Please please give me some tips. Thanks!

have you pulled out the dispenser drawer and washed it plus the bit that the drawer fits into - it gets very cruddy too.

I've noticed today mine has mould in the seal bit ( bit like watchdog ones), and I can't get it out. Mine is a bit smelly have you checked the seal?

soda crystals solved my problem had to do it twice though on the hottest wash.

Soda crystals here too. Works a treat. I put some in the soap section, some in the conditioner and some inside the drum.

The black yukky coating you see inside the dispenser is probably behind the drum too so this does get rid.

If you squeeze a whole lemon in the drum and one in the drawer then put it on a boil wash , all should be well .

do a 90 degree wash with Bicarbonate of soda (pop some in the drum and in the drawer). Bicarbs very good at getting rid of smells, you can leave an open pot of it in a fridge as a freshner too.

Thanks very much for all your replies - will definitely try bicarb of soda. It really is quite disgusting Blush

any better BatFlattery?
Only asking for when I can't manage the heavy soda crystals.
Like travellingwilbury's lemon idea though.

TheVisitor · 13/05/2011 13:08

This is due to washing with nonbio at low temperatures. Does your machine good to do a very hot wash once a week or so.

titferbrains · 13/05/2011 13:09

bicarb - a tbsp in drum and drawer?

BatFlattery · 13/05/2011 16:51

Joyousthings - not had a chance to get to shops yet, will do at weekend, will let you know how it goes.

Thanks for all replies! (sorry for abrupt post, typing one-handed while feeding DS).
