filing cabinet for home?

do you have a filing cabinet at home for all the bills, insurance, important docs etc?

I want to get one but not sure how big to go?
I think a 2 drawer one shd be fine and that way it will fit under a desk and will be relatively discreet, but realistically does a family of 4 need a 3 drawer one?

also where can I get one that is vaguely attractive?? Have looked at John Lewis. Is there anywhere else that might have an ok looking one?

Our living room has a brown leather sofa, purple/walnut side tables, walnut bookshelves on one wall. So would be sensible to get them in walnut but if we move house I would prefer to have a white or cream office, just less drab than dark office stuff. Filing cabinet would currently go into corner of living room where desk/computer is. So if white or cream it wouldn't really be noticed.

We have a 3 drawer one and it is more than big enough despite my hoarding careful preservation of all paperwork. One drawer is completely empty and the others are by no means full.

Ours is a big old metal one from my dh's old office though. We did have a beech wood 2 drawer one from John Lewis but it didn't actually hold a great deal. I would be careful and not assume all 2 drawer cabinets hold the same amount of documents.

ok thanks for the heads up. Worth going to JL to have a look at them beforehand I guess. Will also have a look at Ikea site, tho I don't drive so it's a bit of a mission getting there and I always spend money on rubbish I don't need when I go for the one item.

£33495 is that all?? OOOO i think il buy a couple pmsl

We have a 2 drawer one and we are a family of 5 and DP used to be self emplyed so has all his stuff plus household in, slightly full so i think a 2 drawer one for normal family use should be enough. Ours is boring metal too though im afraid :(

Rymans seem to have plenty of sensible looking ones that will hold a fair amount. They are just dull items, I think so better get one that's well made a be done with it. Why am I bothering with dreaming that I can find a really attractive one? Grin

I have been admiring Hmm the Erik filing cabinet in Ikea that is only 100 euros (sorry don't know what it is in pounds in UK but can't be that expensive) and looks quite nice and reasonably well built for the price considering it's a metal filing cabinet. Unfortunately they don't sell the nice white one in my local shop, I can only buy it online and they want 60 euros to deliver it! Shock
