No bleach here either.
I squirt under the rim and into the bowl a good glugg of harpic blue.
Then wipe down seat (and under it) and lid and side of loo with all purpose cleaner.
Scrub with loo brush and flush.
Wipe down stray droplets.
Done.
For some reason my cleaner thinks it is adequate to just squirt some harpic inside..............

stofstg · 08/05/2011 12:00

so your cleaner doesn't clean the seat or the flush handle? how much are you paying her?! lol maybe you need to give her a demonstration of your more thorough cleaning way hehe

mousymouse · 08/05/2011 13:31

she does the rest very well, so she doesn*t attempt to clean the loo anymore and does the oven instead.

peachybums · 08/05/2011 15:06

Ive done one better today and replaced the whole flipping toilet seat!!

Other one was minging and so old it had rusted onto the loo so we couldnt get it off, even with pliers! My dad just came over with a hack saw and got it off. Gave loo a Clean with some anti bac wipes, a squirt of harpic inside and put new seat on.

Looks better than it has in years haha! Will put some citric acid in tonight before i go to bed so will be sparkly under the water line too Grin

Every day is loo cleaning day in this house!

stofstg · 08/05/2011 17:49

@ valiumredhead and 9876543210

do you clean the toilet everyday? I only do mine once or twice a week.

OP posts:
WhereTheWildThingsWere · 08/05/2011 17:50

Everyday here.

valiumredhead · 08/05/2011 19:19

Yes, every night before bed, I give both loos a quick scrub with some bleach, lid down and leave over night - nice and clean for the morning!

tallwivglasses · 08/05/2011 19:43

"...wipe down stray droplets" ??? Shock

I am a filthy slattern.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 08/05/2011 19:45

Cleaned ours when DD was in the bath earlier, usually do it about twice a week. And I don't use bleach...

saltyseadog · 08/05/2011 19:46

Gawd. More like loo cleaning fortnight in our house.

marriednotdead · 08/05/2011 20:34

Cleaned whenever anyone does more than a wee by whoever it is (5 people/1 loo so definitely several times a day) plus an extra thorough wipe/scrub twice a week.

Get through at least 1 bottle of bleach and a pack of flushable wipes every week.

If you don't clean it every day, does that mean there are marks left in the pan then? Confused

mousymouse · 08/05/2011 20:36

married short answer, no!

stofstg · 08/05/2011 21:04

@ married - if i notice any skidmarks then yeah i don the rubber gloves grab my bleach and sort it out but other than that its just a once or twice a week for the actual bleaching of the inside, partly to limit the amount of bleach i use. I only time i use bleach in the house is for the loo because its the only place i wanna make sure i'm really killing germs i guess. To save myself from possibly coming across as a slatten i do wipe the seat and flush handle every night. So do you actually do the full wiping all surfaces and clean inside everyday then?

OP posts:
marriednotdead · 08/05/2011 21:37

I do a quick once over every day- I've got IBS so am a bit para about leaving marks. Everyone cleans up their own 'evidence' and there's plenty of yelling if they don't.
I wipe down the cistern/handle and the whole outside of the bowl a couple of times a week.

Am not a clean freak by any means- can't work out why I chose white mats as they are filthy within hours Grin

valiumredhead · 09/05/2011 10:46

For people that don't use bleach - how do you get the loo clean?

mousymouse · 09/05/2011 12:20

valium see my first post above :)
problem with just using bleach imo, it only bleaches the limescale so that it stains quicker again.
loo cleaners contain soaps and limescale remover as well as bleach, so the loo doesn*t stain again quite as quickly.
harpic blue plus brush works wonders here. loo cleaning once a week, quick wipe of the seat daily.

AnneofIngleside · 09/05/2011 12:42

Does anyone know of a cleaner that changes the colour of the water - either one you squirt in, or clip onto the rim? We bought our house last year and two of the toilets are impossible to get clean without scraping off the surface which would make things even worse. Apparently because of what they are made of we can't use a block in the cistern to colour the water. If anyone knows of anything please let me know. At the moment we're using clip on rim cleaners that kill the germs and release a smell, but they just make the water foam up for a bit and when that goes you can see the horrible mucky toilet bowl again.

valiumredhead · 09/05/2011 13:35

You need an over night Harpic limescale remover anne - that will get rid of brown bowls (shudder!)

valiumredhead · 09/05/2011 13:36

Don't have a limescale problem mousy , I suppose it depends on if you live in a hard water area or not......... what a thing to be discussing Grin

gotolder · 10/05/2011 21:21

Or Parazone limescale remover tablets.

I went to stay in my DD's rental flat soon after she moved in and needed a cat sitter for her epileptic cat whilst she was on holiday. I don't think I have ever seen a worse toilet bowl; it wasn't brown it was black and she said she had tried to clean it and it was impossible. I used 2 tablets every night, scrubbed hard every morning, and she came home to a loo that looked like new.

inchoccyheaven · 11/05/2011 21:25

I use Lidl multi wipes to clean all the loo except the bowl and then just wizz the bleach around the bowl and leave. It gets done a few times a week or more if needs it.

MavisEnderby · 11/05/2011 21:30

I do it everday.Does anyone have any tips on how to get a recalcitrant 7 year old to flush post poo?I have tried being nice,I have cajoled,I have yelled but the dirty little bugger still forgets..

"Do you do this at school??" I asked in desperation."I save it up for home mum!" he told me seriously.

aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrgghhhhh.

I wonder if docking some of his pocket money is justifiable! Is it just my boy that is a nightmare???????

valiumredhead · 12/05/2011 08:30

I would dock pocket money - bet he remembers then!
