Decluttering - electrical items

Inspired by some of the threads on here, I am attempting to declutter. I have found a few electrical items that I don't use but have no idea what to do with them. For example, I've found an old epilator that I haven't used for more than fifteen years. I'm sure it still works but I wouldn't want to use it and can't see anyone else wanting to.

Do I need to dispose of these items in a particular way (because of the components) or does anyone have any better ideas?

Thanks

Freecycle.org - you'd be amazed what people will take off your hands
Think otherwise you have to take things to the council dump... i know if you buy a new item the retailer is obliged to get rid of the old for you (WEEE directive) but you mightn't be looking to purchase a new epilator??!
