Removing limescale and cleaning windows.

Knofje · 30/04/2011 18:06

I use it as:

Limescale remover
In spray bottle with 50% water and a drop of washing up liquid as all round spray cleaner
In softer draw of washing machine - softens and deodorizes
As prewash - deodorizes
In washing machine / dishwasher during maintenance cycle
Deodorizer for espresso / senseo drip tray - put a bit in when you've emptied and rinsed it, stops the slime too
A dish of it left in a room overnight sucks up smells

Ummm, 1000's of things really.

Thanks for that! I didn't want it to gather dust in the cupboard!

I just bought some for sweat stains on shirts... Sprayed it on and left then washed... No difference... What have I done wrong?? I thought this was going to solve my sweaty husband work shirt problem...

mousymouse · 01/05/2011 16:41

nobo for dhs sweaty shirts I put a cupfull of vinegar into the softener dispenser of the mashine.
don
t worry the smell goes away as the shirts dry.

imnobody · 02/05/2011 18:10

Thanks mousy I tend to use vinegar anyway to soften water as our is terrible here.

Knofje · 02/05/2011 21:37

Try spraying them with vodka. They won't smell of alcohol (or sweat) afterward.

I sometimes soak DP's running gear (which gets v stinky!) in a mix of vinegar and water. Soak it for an hour or so, then wash as normal. It really helps.

I also soak a bit of kitchen roll in vinegar and wrap it round the base of taps, where it gets limescaley.

It's good for getting rid of limescale in kettles too.

beachesforme · 05/05/2011 12:51

we use it for the above and as a mirror cleaner

Seabright · 05/05/2011 23:45

I do the showerheads in vinegar, it's great. Have to try the kettle next.

Where's a good place to buy cheap white vinegar? I wouldn't say it's that cheap at the supermarket.

I use cheapo malt vinegar to descale my kettle & pour the vinegar back into the bottle when I've finished. It usually lasts at least a year before it gets too full of limescale & I need to change it again.
