Welcome to the May edition of the Fledgling Flyers' thread. Thank you to Nettie for her splendid leadership of last month's thread.

If you're living in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome), this is the thread for you! We follow the tips on the FlyLady website in an attempt to restore order to our homes, but advise against signing up for the e-mails; all the information you need is on this thread.

Each day, I'll be posting the links that will enable you to do any of the following:

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat babysteps and do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More information about the babysteps is here.

So please join us - there's always plenty of chat, tea, cake, encouragement and the occasional Wine to help us on our way!

Just have to post and run. Did:

swish n swipe
made beds
rebooted laundry

Went to work and then daycare called for me to pick up DS as he vomited twice :( poor little man!

Be back later!

Oh hope the haircut went well PA !

scattyspice · 13/05/2011 17:39

LOL toffee at your caveman son! DD has dressed her toy hamster up in sparkly ribbon, stickers and hair bobbles. I don't think a real pet would be safe here either!

Have done everything here but dust.

Usual swimming/ballet chaos tomorrow + library and buy broccoli.
On sunday dh is proposing a family 'hill walk' Hmm.

LadyInPink · 13/05/2011 18:10

Grin at the rabbit story Toffee

Sad your DS is poorly just in time for the weekend - such bad luck CY

Just cooking toad in the hole so must dash. See you all later - may look in at the weekend but it's a action packed one again Smile

droitwichmummy · 13/05/2011 19:11

Did someone mention marble cake? Yes please!

Had a couple of really industrious working days so not much flying done but I will get the last 3 missions done tomorrow - 1 big bowl of soapy water will do for appliances big & small Smile. DH is away overnight so I have promised myself an early night with a DVD and I can catch up tomorrow.

missjulie · 13/05/2011 19:21

Thanks guys, i like the idea of a shadow box/memory box!
Didn't get a better sleep last night! (4am!)
Managed today - tidy up, gut out DD's wardrobe, get all her new clothes from birthday prezzies put away, stripped DD's bed, got loads of thank you letters finished (same ones i was doing in Feb!!!!!) Packaged up loads of parcels for posting, made shopping list, saw washing machine guy - who thinks need new machine as motor on way out - although, after him tweeking, am on my 2nd load, phew! Fed & watered DD & I, caught up on emails & internet corespondance....put bin out...think that's about it!

PositiveAttitude · 13/05/2011 19:40

I'm on my way for Marble cake! Grin

Toffee slight concern over the rabbit stew! Hmm Grin

Mine have now settled down and are behaving.

DCs all out for the evening, DH working for another hour........ bliss!!
Took DD4 to the optician today and she needs glasses. She's not happy, but the pair she has chosen look lovely.
My hair is swishing beautifully, I love it, but DD2 is less convinced! Confused What does she know!!! It wasn't too bad at the hairdressers. Ear was "touched" a few times, which made me jumpy and twitch, but I had dreaded it being far worse. Smile
No flying done today. Blush

Waves to you all.

LinzerTorte · 13/05/2011 20:22

Wine now open here - please help yourselves. Grin

We took full advantage of the 20% off at the sports shop, and I now have a new bike (well, I will have tomorrow once we've picked it up), DD2 has a new scooter and I also bought a new iPod holder armband thing and running T-shirt. I was quite Shock at the prices of the running clothes, however, and decided it would probably be far cheaper to order anything else from a UK website (even taking into account the 20% off and international postage). I have just put in an order. Grin

Anyway, it's not just Wine time - it's also round-up time.

CheerfulYank has a sparkling kitchen, has laminated her routines (I also love being able to tick off the items as I go along) and has a poorly DS.

PA ran round her garden starkers in pursuit of a cat and has lovely swishy hair.

scatty has still not dusted Wink and is looking forward to a weekend of swimming, ballet, broccoli and hill walking. Hmm

Toffee was tackling the family finances, was very relieved when her DS finished his SATs and probably also rather relieved that she hadn?t bought her other DS a real rabbit.

swan was pleased to find that her DD?s teeth are looking good but wished her DS would communicate more.

SC was still struggling with computer problems and dashing round like an anaemic headless chicken in preparation for her DD?s first communion.

Lady provided us with some helpful information about how to stop thumb-sucking (I really must do something about DD2?s habit), has been busy cleaning and made toad in the hole.

Cinders decided she should open a cafe and offered everyone marble cake.

DWM has been busy working and is looking forward to an early DH-free night.

missjulie has had a very productive day despite her sleep deprivation.

Well, seeing as it's Friday Date Night and DH has been away for the past three days, I really ought to switch the computer off and spend some time with him, I suppose. Grin See you all in the morning.

Toffeefudgecake · 14/05/2011 00:17

PA - Grin at rabbit stew! Just to assure you - DS2 is usually a very sweet-natured boy. Glad to hear your hair is looking lovely. Hope DD4 soon gets used to her glasses. My DS1 wears glasses. He doesn't like wearing them when he's out, but does wear them for work or to watch telly.

Cheerful - so sorry for your poor DS. Hope he feels better soon.

Scatty - Grin at the sparkly toy hamster.

Lady - enjoy your busy weekend.

Droitwich -early night with DVD sounds great.

CybertownCinders · 14/05/2011 06:16

NettieSpaghetti · 14/05/2011 06:31

Good morning everyone, haven't caught up yet.

Had fab time at Blackpool real good fun weekend and a lovely time in Scotland seeing lots of gorgeous nieces and nephews.

My cleaner has quit and I've not been at home for a week and a half. Dh managed to look after dc but house is a bombsite!!

Today is Definately going to be 15m here there and everywhere. Think I'll start at the top and work my way down.

Feel like I've neglected you all so will try and read some roundups if nothing else today.

It's good to be home Grin

LinzerTorte · 14/05/2011 06:33

Morning all,

Today?s babystep is to read about how to use a calendar FlyLady-style.

No mission today; Saturday is Family Fun Time.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. Smile

A good morning to you lovely ladies - a gorgeous sunny start, hope it stays that way Smile

Cinders you're right, it's Saturday the 14th today Smile

Hi to nettie glad you had a lovely time!

Got washing on so will hang that out soon and iron that, and yesterdays pile sometime this wkend. Meeting a friend for lunch as it is her birthday today Smile DH is taking DD for a fun swim (no lessons this wkend) and i will take her to visit grandparents while he is at work later.

Going to make a cake for friend as her DP is away on tour so she prob won't get one otherwise so see you all later.................

LinzerTorte · 14/05/2011 11:06

Lady What a lovely idea to make a cake for your friend (is her DH a famous rock star? Grin)

Just back from shopping and picking up my new bike, which I'm planning to try out in about 10 minutes when I cycle over to a friend's for lunch. I was slightly Shock to discover in one shop that you got 10% off and a free coffee if you had a man (i.e. your DH/partner) with you - can't imagine that happening in the UK somehow. AIBU to think you shouldn't be rewarded for having a man with you when you go shopping? (Must admit we did take advantage of the offer, though Smile).

DH is mowing the lawn while he's still allowed (any noise, in particular lawn-mowing, is prohibited between 1 and 3 pm and all day Sunday) and DS is out with him, so I'm enjoying a few minutes of peace and quiet (the DDs are still at DD2's friend's house, where they stayed last night). Must go and take DH a coffee - back later!

NettieSpaghetti · 14/05/2011 13:54

lunch done
Fridge cleaned ready for shopping to be delivered.
Dining floor swept x 2 as moonsand everywhere
Washing x3 loads done, two hanging, one in tumble drier.

Tidy living room/ sweep floor/wipe finger marks off couch
Tidy bedroom
Hoover rugs/hall/bedrooms

I think that will jolly well do Grin

Shock at no grass cutting between 1-3! can't even imagine them
Trying to implement something like that here.

Right better get moving as eyes closing sitting here!

swanriver · 14/05/2011 15:19

Hello Nettie - cooker in suitcase Confused? large suitcase or small cooker?

Linzer what a good idea. One of my friends lives where they are not allowed barbecues (pretence it is smoke that annoys, but really it just stops people having large noisy drunken parties in the summer time)

Dh and I have been up since six, achieved v. little in the way of organisation or housekeeping, arranged babysitter to take dtwins to various activities, ds2 behaving badly again..but
we did manage to take ds1 to his baseline assessment at new Secondary
listened to umpteen talks from teachers about eyebrows, shaven heads, Nike overcoats, that reading was important, that homework was important, that boys liked praise, what a wonderful school it was. I'm sure they are right, just it was soo soo long.
Gosh, both dh and I realised how awful it must be to be a child in school all day being sat in a chair and talked at....Sad hopefully they let the real pupils ask some questions, interact etc.

Totally exhausted now (early starts make me so badtempered) Dss watching football, dd watching Princess Bride, and I'm going for a nap.

CybertownCinders · 14/05/2011 17:27

Families...Confused

how does one have fun with them...Confused

Toffeefudgecake · 14/05/2011 18:42

We tried to have a family fun day by going to a 'medieval fayre'. But DH woke up feeling ill, so had to stay in bed. And DS1 found the 'fayre' too noisy and too stressful and wanted to come home. So not a great success. I did, however, stop off at a park on the way home and bought the boys ice lollies, which seemed to go down well.

Fell asleep on DS2's bed when I came home and woke to find that he'd stuck a tiger's tail on me Smile.

Am babysitting tonight. Not sure if this will give me free time or not, as it is very possible the baby will wake up and need lots of cuddling.

Have done very little flying, although I did manage to load the d/w and do one load of washing.

Nothing planned for tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it.

LinzerTorte · 14/05/2011 20:33

Had a lovely lunch in friend's garden while it was still sunny outside and managed to ride my new bike back home (with the DDs on their scooters; DH and DS took the lazy option of the car) before the rain started. We then went to the DIY store/garden centre, where I bought several plastic boxes in an attempt to get organised and a skirt Hmm, which I'm now not too sure about.

Also discovered that mowing the lawn is not, in fact, permitted on a Saturday afternoon at all -it's only on weekdays that you're allowed to get your lawnmower back out after 3 pm. As I refuse to have anything to do with the garden, this means that DH only has Saturday morning to cut the grass - no wonder he's often so stressed about it.

I decided to tackle the DC's magazine/arts and crafts drawer this afternoon, which is looking slightly tidier now. I've left the three latest magazines out for them to do (my parents send them a magazine every month) and have put all the others, plus the various free craft supplies that they came with, in a box in the cellar. Out of sight out of mind, and all that.

It's been fairly quiet on the thread today, so just a short round-up tonight.

Nettie was back from her travels and quickly sprang back into flying action.

Lady was enjoying the sun and baked a cake for her friend?s birthday.

Makingchanges has had a stressful week and had a day of planning and flying ahead of her.

swan had an early start and has learned all about eyebrows and shaven heads at her DS?s new school.

Cinders was pondering on the concept of family fun.

Toffee attempted to have family fun and discovered that buying ice lollies is probably the answer.

Hope everyone else has been enjoying some family fun today. Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 14/05/2011 21:40

Well, Eurovision night. I gather from my Facebook page that quite a lot of my friends are watching it. As is DH. I, on the other hand, am defrosting the freezer as that is infinitely preferable to watching it.

NettieSpaghetti · 14/05/2011 21:41

whoknows love it! Grin

CheerfulYank · 14/05/2011 21:42

Just dropping in to catch up a bit...have been flying all day as people are coming over tomorrow to help me paint.

Bye! :)
