How do you reenergise the velco on a reading folder?

I can't get it to stick shut any more. I've tried to pull any bits of fluff out of the velcro but it's too tricky. Any top tips?

I got kids at school to rescue their grass encrusted Velcro shoes by using an unfolded paperclip to scrape out the bits. Worked well enough for them to be able to fasten shoes again.

Nit comb works well.

I've gt an old fat darning needle I use - anything like that or a knitting needle should dislodge enough of the fluff to get it working again.
