Dead rat smell (sorry no nice way to put this)

We came back from 4 days away to the most * awful stink in the house... yes a dead one was in the cellar. Dh found the wretched thing and has got rid of it but how on earth do we get rid of the smell? (We knew what it was as we still have poison down there from when the pest control people came.)

I would light some candles. I find they get rid of nasty smells.

Open the windows for as long as you can each day, bleach the spot where the rat was found.

Thanks. We've got the windows in room above open, and door too, so will get the bleach down there. Do fresh coffee grounds work or is that just a myth to flog a house? DD 7 spent the afternoon drawing rats, asking exactly how long it was....
