My beloved frying pan has died :( Help me choose a replacement?

My favourite, large Tefal non-stick frying pan is no longer non stick :( It was starting to be a bit sticky a while ago but I kept it going with careful cleaning, my FIL's attempt at scrambled eggs has killed it off completely though. (No, I don't know how you fuck up scrambled eggs either, but that's a different thread entirely.... :o )

I'm effectively running a student household here so the replacement can't be too expensive but I use my frying pan more than anything so it doesn't have to be dirt cheap either. It does need to be reasonably light as I have a joint problem, so much as I'd love a cast iron skillet, I simply can't lift them. I'm cooking on an electric hob that I suspect is substantially older than I am.

Basic criteria:

  • large
  • non-stick
  • good quality, not too thin, but not extremely heavy either
  • not too shallow

I would really love one with a glass lid but it's not a must. Any suggestions?

This thread is very old now, but if you’re looking for advice on which non-stick pans to buy, we’ve recently refreshed our best frying pan guide with plenty of high-quality, long-lasting options recommended by Mumsnetters, including budget-friendly picks. We hope you find it useful.
