calling kenwood chef lovers: folding function/timer?

would you pay extra to have a fold function in the mixer or is it just an expensive luxury and you'd never notice the difference?

the kenwood titanium chef KM030 seems to be the only chef/major which has this function although it's standard for the Kmixers.

also the KM030 has a timer, but i can't really imagine when that would be useful?

anybody got a KM030 or should i go for the KM010 with the slightly smaller bowl??

oh and the other thing is, the best price i can find at the moment for a KM010 is about £316 (free p&P). should i hang on for a better deal or is that as good as it's likely to get these days?

thanks in advance

I have an old kenwood chef (orange A901 with metal bowl) and as it only came with a k mixer and an egg whisk that is all I have ever used, although I do hanker after the potato peeler! I love my kenwood and wouldn't be without it but they do take up a lot of room. I would not bother with fold option as I always do a quick hand stir first before putting kenwood on to mix as otherwise flour goes everywhere (unless you buy a flour guard) Why not buy an old A900 series one, see if you like and use it and if you do you could buy the latest model and most attachments will transfer over to the new one anyway.

I have an old blue and white one that I had refurbished, it is wonderful and probably 25 years old, but works like a dream.

I have a dough hook and whisk as well as the K beater, stainless steel bowl I use for making meringue and the ceramic white one for cakes etc nothing else needed

I got my KM010 for £280, free p and p from amazon in October. I find the functions it has are fine, I do lots of baking and find the silicon k beater is fine. Didn't know the KM030 has a fold function, and don't miss not having one. Mine comes with a flour guard too.

I love my kenwood! It lives on my worksurface, whuch isn't huge, and as I use it a fair bit, I don't see it as a space waster.

thanks for the replies - i am always amazed at the number of kenwoods that seem to be going strong after umpteen years! and 280 jetgirl - probably won't be seeing that sort of price again!!

I can't see that a fold function would be all that effective - for good folding you really do need to be looking at the mix carefully, and moving the spoon to fold in what's missing, iyswim - an automated version just wouldn't do as good a job, and would lose too much air. I also really don't see the point of a timer. I love my Kenwood - lives on the top, gets regular use all the time, and behaves impeccably.
