Can you recommend a decent toilet seat that won't need tightening every week, won't break, won't slide off etc etc

This is driving me bonkers but the kids have their own bathroom and the seat in there is constantly under stress, either being sat on the wrong way round, climbed on or slammed shut.

I've just found it totally off its lickle plastic hinges and screamed at ds1 largely because he is Tha Sort Of Boy and two days ago he sat on the curtains in there, cue 10ft high curtain rail coming down plus half the wall. He breaks everything Sad

I need a decent, very strong loo seat so please, if anyone else has encountered a wavering seat would you be kind enough to let me know if you have now found a good one that stays still! Smile

One from Ikea - it was inexpensive too.

My Ikea one broke within a week - hence clicking on this thread!

DH is threatening to buy a padded one. YEGADS!

i have a slow close argos one and it was recommended on here, the hinges are stronger that the usual ones.

i have got through so many toilet seats in the past i kept a log Grin this one has lasted though

We have a new compact toilet now and it came with a soft close seat - the seat was expensive but it has been ace. Bit of a drastic measure though!

Do Ikea sell more than one loo seat?????? We'd been through many annoying ones until the ikea one!

OOohhhhhhh watching with interest. I have the same problems, what with kids and cats our toilet seats rarely last more than 2/3 months.
Today I had to go without a toilet seat! The most uncomfortable few minutes of my life

CarGirl · 16/04/2011 20:49

urgh

I got the ikea one on recommendation of MN....................

Our toilet seat is broken too. We currently have no lid as it broke off and it looks like a public toilet which I irrationally hate.

I had suggested we buy a super duper fancy £20 one from costco last time, as they will return anything if it breaks no fuss, but dh said it was a waste of money...this will be the third toilet seat since august

IngridBergman · 16/04/2011 20:54

I am saddened but strangely relieved not to be alone Grin

Even our other one in MY bathroom which has been there since 1984 is beginning to go, now ds2 uses it...they are death to toilets, my children.

I thought it was just me - or that my arse was too fat.

We have a ound toilet and I have only been able to find oblong toilet seats. They slip and slide and are useless within about 3 months.

I am always embarrassed and can hear guests sliding around on our loo.

JengaJane · 19/04/2011 21:43

After many a low seat broken we settled on a soft close from Argos and it has lasted 2 years already which is impressive by comparison.
