Microfibre duvet gone into lumps

We have a microfibre duvet for the spare bed, it was from TK Maxx so not dirt cheap. It's about a year old and the filling (sewn in square pockets like a down duvet) has collected into lumps in each pocket, leaving big cold spots.

Did I do something wrong? Do I have to tease out the filling again in all 68 or so pockets or is there a short cut. Rubbish duvet, I'm thinking but I don't want to waste it.

just an idea

could you wash it, then tumble dry it with dryer balls (or tennis balls) to get rid of lumps?

Could a launderette who service washes these things all the time be of any help or the manufacturer?
