Help me! My washing smells horrible!

It's really getting on my nerves. Never actually felt like my washing smells lovely but just recently it's really bad. It's coming out smelling of old manky water. The machine is not old, I rent it. I regularly clean it with the sachets that hotpoint make to clean the machine and did so the other day. If anything, the washing smells worse now! I don't stick to the same brand detergents but ATM I'm using Ariel and some sort of fabric softener which is bright blue. I dry inside but have used line before but this doesn't help.

Do you do a hot wash once a week to clean it out? Try bio powders too

Also check the door seal for gunk which is rotting in the heat - DO NOT DO THIS WITH YOUR FINGER - vomit in the drum will not help matters.

Have you tried cleaning it with something like Calgon ?

We've just had the same problem and a search on here revealed it's washing at low temps and using liquid detergent.

We took out the drawer and filter, cleaned them and the seals, put through a boil wash with soda crystals and now I do one hot wash a week (with crystals) to kill the bacteria that make the horrid smell. No problems since.
