How do I get the smell of cod out of my fridge?

I'm not talking about the famous MN cod, obviously - I'm sure she smells delightful!

But my friend's DP is a sea fisherman, and they gave me some freshly caught cod fillets a couple of weeks ago. They were delicious, but even though i've cleaned out the fridge and put a whole load of lemons, bicarb of soda etc in there to try and soak up the stench, there's still an overpowering fishy whiff that leaks out every time I open the door. The cod was only in there for two nights, and was wrapped up in plastic bags.

How can I make my fridge smell nice again? It's making me feel quite sick.

Are you pregnant?
Maybe you are smelling it a lot stronger than it actually is. Fresh fish kept for 2 nights shouldn't smell really bad, especially with all those things you've done to alleviate. Are you sure there isn't some left in there rotting somewhere?
Only other advice I can offer is to leave a bag of fresh ground coffee open in the fridge - supposedly can help.

I would assume that the bags must have leaked so I would get everything out and give it a good old clean.

Warmish solution of bicarb and a clean cloth. Wipe everything (jars etc) before putting it back. Clean the shelves especially at the bottom. Dry with a teatowel/kitchen roll

Yes I am delia, but DP can smell it too, so it must be pretty nasty! Would instant coffee granules work? To be honest I find the smell of coffee almost as unpleasant as decomposing cod, so not sure if that solution would work!!

lollipop I've had all the shelves out - maybe I need to give them a proper soak rather than the usual squirt and wipe!

I had this a while ago, someone had given us some fish that was perhaps not as fresh as it could have been for our cats. I forgot about it for a couple more days and by that point it was very stinky. It drive me mad for days. I used 'Flash with febreeze' eventually and just gave everything a good wipe down. You could then also put a pot with some bicarb in to absord any remaining smells, or I bought a Croc-odor' (sp?) from the supermarket and have put that in the back of the fridge to get rid of any remaining nasties. Seemed to do the job. You have my sympathy, it was making me fel ill every time I opened the fridge and people were commenting on it if they came for a coffee and I opened the fridge, yuck!
