Hi all, was hoping you guys could answer a question for me. I love the flylady and try to follow the rules but... She starts with a shiny sink. We live in the dark ages (currently have no dish washer) and still have pots and pans on the drainer when I go to bed. How do you get around this? Am a very literal person and need to follow the steps perfectly or I don't seem able to do it at all. Help me please! I need a clean, organised home!

We have no dishwasher, I just dry them and put them in a cupboard/balance them on top of the fridge. Not got to decluttering the kitchen yet! Grin

Thanks. I'm one of those who breaks/drops things. The thought of attempting it fills me with dread! Was hoping for some magic, non-existanr alternative solution. Guess I need to learn to bite the bullet....

My kitchen is like a massive Jenga game - fridge balanced on top of freezer, then about 20 different things balanced precariously on top of each other, on top of the fridge!

I've been using a combination of bornagaindomesticgoddess's super list and fly lady and I gotta admit that the shiny sink does make me smile in the morning. Though had such a hectic day at work I need to kick myself up the bum to make sure I do it tonight. must get off mn

I think if you don't have a dishwasher then flylady suggests having a washing up bowl (hidden in the cupboard under your sink) to put the dirty washing up in?

I try to have a clear sink & drainer before I goto bed. If there is dirty washing up i am too lazy to do to be done, then I just leave it on the worktop beside the sink. For me, the thing about having a "shiny sink" is that I can use it straight away in the morning, having pans "soaking" in the sink or stuff on the drainer which I have to move out of the way really pisses me off! when I am grumpy in the morning

I have the same problem and found that when I followed Flylady religiously I was always doing either washing up or drying. It drove me insane. Add to that, that I'm not the last person to use the sink at night so even when I did shine my sink last thing at night it didn't stay clear anyway. So I'm working on my perfectionism and that includes doing flylady perfectly.

So before I go to bed, I do all the washing up and leave the dishes draining on the board. I swish the sink and make sure it is basically clean. In the morning I put everything away before getting out the breakfast stuff. It doesn't take very long at all.

But I do the major sink clean and tidy after the kids dinner at 5:30ish. With the kids, we wash and dry the dishes and then I clean the sink and make it shiny. This means that at one point in the day I have a nice shiny sink, it just isn't exactly when Flylady says.

Flylady is great, but don't let your perfectionism get in the way of it. I think you have to find your way of doing it so that it works for you, your family and your house.
