Melted plastic on element of dishwasher Help!

Any ideas on how to remove it? I washed dp's plastic sports bottle and it has melted onto the element. I usually wash them in the top shelf of the dishwasher, but this was a tall one and didn't fit so I put it on the tall spikes of the bottom drawer, not thinking that the element would affect it.

I have removed as much as I can pull off, any tips before I go at it with a knife! Any wand waving magic spells to take it off welcomed, as I really just want to go to bed and hope it has disappeared by the morning :o

I would love to know too! In my case it's a plastic lid for tins of catfood... I picked off what I could and have left the rest there and so far it doesn't seem to have caused any problems. But I'd prefer it to be gone!

PatientGriselda, does the plastic left on your element burn away more and smell?? I haven't turned dishwasher on yet.

I melted the handle of a spoon before but it came off easily and there wasn't much plastic left on the element, I'm afraid there is a lot more this time so wondering if the smell of plastic will be horrendous when I turn it on.

It just carries on melting so after each wash there is less on the element and more on the floor of the dishwasher, if you see what I mean. I haven't noticed any burning smell.

Did it survive, mais??

It did PatientGriselda , still smells of burning plastic though, but that should fade. Removed more plastic after 1st wash while it was still warm. Might run some dishwasher cleaner through and see will that speed up getting a nice fresh smell back into it.

Could you wrap a bag of frozen peas (or summat) round the element... (don't laugh- might be worth a try)

to harden the plastic...would it peel off then?

I did hear about that before so I won't laugh! There isn't much left on it, wouldn't think it would peel off now, but think it will just have to wear away over the next few washes. Thanks for the help
