Egyptian cotton sheets and Ikea bed...

Does anyone have high thread count sheets for their Ikea bed? And if so, where did you get them from?

I think ours is a European Kingsize, which is 200 x 160 cm, and our current sheets are yellow don't fit properly (I assume they're UK Superking or something).

Off out in a bit, but will check back later this evening

Oh. Just realised that Ikea kingsize is 10cm wider apparently than standard Kingsize (200 x 150)... I think that's right? Explains a lot, such as why you then have to buy Ikea sheets to fit.

Sorry if that means non-ikea sheets won't fit... I just bit the bullet today and marched into White Co and bought a sheet. A king size fitted sheet. In Egyptian cotton, £30. It's only 200 Thread Count (TC) but apparently it's not the big number TC, it's the length of the cotton fibres that counts... and Egyptian is the best, or so MN sheet threads have told me.

I don't CARE if I could've gotten it cheaper or better elsewhere, my foot went through the sheet last week and have been using a flat sheet as a bottom sheet ever since Envy

I did do a lot of researchy goodness on mumsnet before I took the plunge with White Company though, and it does get thumbs up. Plus I learnt all about TCs, obviously Smile

House of Fraser I would think.

BabyValentine · 04/04/2011 20:51

Thanks, very, interesting about the thread count not being too important. Saves me trawling through past threads Grin.

I've had a brief look at the WCo website and as far as I can see, it only has UK sizes available, so the closest match would be a UK Superking at 200 x 180 cm.

I'll go check at John Lewis now, cabbage. Think there is a sale on this week...

House of Fraser doesn't have the dimensions of the fitted sheets, dikkert but I suspect they are UK sizes.

I have found a site, the Linen Cupboard which sells a Euro King for £45, so I might just go for that.

Thanks guys Smile

I bought some from TKMaxx and they just fit my IKEA kingsize bed. They are fitted sheets though and it is a bit of a battle to get them on.

JL sheets can work as they tend to be deeper, which gives you a bit more grace in the width.

Otherwise flat sheets would work - and if you can work a sewing machine then adding the corners in wouldn't be a big job.

BabyValentine · 06/04/2011 19:57

Ooh, mirage, forgot about TKMaxx, sounds promising.

And, tangle, I do have a sewing machine, and it generally takes me longer to thread it than it does to take up my trousers! So good idea, but a recipe for disaster I think...
