The iron fell off the board onto red rug, now coated in red, any ideas of the best way to remove it? Many thanks!

One of those iron sole-plate cleaners? - you can find them in hardware stores.

Had to laugh - I have a burnt iron mark on the carpet ... if anyone's got any tips on that I would be glad to hear them!

DH blamed (wait for it) the design of the ironing board for not holding the iron securely.

I did this! I used a butter knife to gently scrape off the worst of it then washed it off using a soap water mixture.

Cruella Nail scissors! Use the point of one side of the scissors and flick the pile back up towards you. Snip off any of the manky bits that have fused together. Keep rebrushing and scraping the scissors along the pile to encourage it to bounce back up. It takes a little while but it's sooo satisfying! (I had a carpet burn by dropping a brand new iron in my last rental place and got the entire deposit back after a very fussy inventory)

Fantastic, thanks for the top tips! I now have a shiny new iron soleplate, I scraped off with knife, couldn't get it off then with soap water solution but managed to get some of the iron sole plate cleaning stick which you melt onto the warm iron then wipe off.

Thanks everyone!
