Cleaning glass shower screen

KD0706 · 25/03/2011 20:00

DH and I have been quite lax and our glass shower screens are in a bit of a state. They've been cleaned regularly, but just with standard bathroom cleaner, which has left lots of soap stains (where the suds have been running down the screen, hope that makes sense.

Anything I spray on it seems to just run down the screen and when I wipe it down the soap marks remain.

Other than good old fashioned elbow grease, any tips??

Thanks

Glass cleaner with vinegar in it (Sainsbury do a cheap one) and an E-cloth. Works perfectly, even on horrible soap scum.

Do you live in a hard water area? What I thought was soap scum build up that wouldn't shift turned out to be limescale. I use Cilit Bang Lime and Grime now to keep it sparkly clear.

I use harpic 100% toilet cleaner! make sure you wear rubber gloves, use a sponge and apply it allover the glass, leave for 5-10 minutes then shower off. It really does work - gets rid of all limescale and scum. I used to clean peoples homes and came across some right grubby shower doors, i always carried some harpic with me lol! customers were amazed when they saw the showers - thought i must have scrubbed for hours!!

sounds like it could be limescale to me - I use ecover limescale remover & an ecloth

get a squeegy to use after each shower - it really keeps ours under control!

Wow... liking the harpic solution... gonna deffo try that!

Shiney SInks - it's fab all my friends ask why our bathrooms are so clean - the cleaner does a good job and insists on shiney sinks - although the shower screen has a special self cleaning layer so she doesn't use it on that but recommended to a friend and sad cow said it had changed her life!

White vinegar and a microfibre cloth works really well, I use only white vinegar and star drops only now, this is after a huge cleanup job I got left with after having a house fire.

crystalglasses · 25/03/2011 22:57

cilit bang does the job beautifully

sarahfreck · 25/03/2011 23:18

If you use a microfibre cloth to wipe down the screen afer each shower, it won't get bad again!

Thank you everybody. Some fab suggestions there. I think Monday will be 'shower clean day'. Fingers crossed.

Yes it will be limescale. We have it on ours. On the very rare occassions it starts to bother me I use toilet bleach like another poster mentioned.

I also use something called Shower Magic, which you spray on and leave after each shower and it stops it all building up again so quickly.
