keeping wooden floorboards clean

We have just had our hallway and family room floorboards sanded and varnished and they look fab. Thing is am wondering how to keep them clean- think a standard mop would be too wet but can I use a steam mop on them?

I will sweep/hoover them to get rid of DD's crumbs but pondering how to keep them clean especially as a muddy buggy will be wheeling through hallway quite often.

We had varnished boards through whole of previous house. I used to use Pledge Soapy Wood Wash (i think that's the name) to wash in a bucket of warm water with a soft cloth mop. Make sure you wring the mop out reasonably well. Always worked and had a clean polish smell after.

I use the E Cloth mop system on ours most of the time. There's no need for detergents at all, and I find its adequate for about 3 out of 4 times. Once a month, we will use the Pledge, or the Method wood floor cleaner, but always with a much weaker dilution than they suggest.

I just do mine with a well wrung out moth with hot water too-it's been down 3ish years and looks better by the year

Hi,

We were advised not to over wet them as it causes the wood to swell and stain. We brush ours and then mop it each week using pledge or wood floor cleaner diluted. Make sure you wring the mop really well though.
