Can I use a steam mop on Stone flags?

I have lovely old stone flag on my kitchen floor, they are beautiful and very forgiving as they do not show any dirt. However, as we had the plinths off today we can see what colour they could be!!
It is quite a difficult floor to mop as it is uneven and shreds vileda style mops, we have to use an old fashioned string mop on it.
I read a thread on here a few weeks ago where someone was using it on a stone floor but now I can't find it!
Do you have to rub the floor quite hard like with a traditional mop - are the pads going to get shredded to quick?
I was really pleased to read that Costco have one as we'll be there later this week and love it - can this one be used on walls too? (have a floor to ceiling tiled bathroom that could do with a once over too)

Bucket of hot soapy water, very large scrubbing brush, gloves, on your knees is best. Or pay someone. Loosens the dirt. Then rinse with string mop.
