What should I wash baby clothes with?

Right I'm 29 weeks pregnant, and have loads of clothes to sort out, wash and put in wardrobe/drawers, pack changing bag and hospital bag, etc. And I was just wondering what the best product is to wash baby clothes in?
Liquid or powder/tablets?
Ariel or Fairy (for example)?
Confused

Any non bio, we used Fairy. Buy the BIG box, you'll need it!

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/03/2011 19:42

Asda sometimes do the big boxes on special offer. Or see if you can join costco, I've forgotton the criteria to join but they do powder cheap and also their Kirkland nappies seem to sell well.

Depends what you usually use. For a 'treat' I use Fairy. I've been sold by the advertising! I used the free tablets I got in the bounty bag to wash ds1's first clothes and every time I use them for my toddlers it reminds me of those precious newborn days Grin
I got a big box of the powder when it was on offer but it smells a bit different. I use ecover on all my clothes usually so didn't need anything else different. I've tried a few other brands depending on what's on offer and what's promising to make my life easier by shifting stains. I haven't found anything that replaces the need to scrub stains out of everything though. I usually go through it all with a bar of fairy soap to get the poo leaks off, few months later it's the weaning spills, then the mud. Am on my 3rd load today Brew

I use ecoballs on mine. No detergents in them to irritate skin. But we've all got sensitive skin here.
The poo stains I think are inevitable. The sun is great for getting rid of the stains so I make sure that the stained side is facing the sun when line drying.

emsyj · 22/03/2011 18:43

I use bio because that's what use for all our other washing. I switched when I found that non-bio left DD's nappies a bit, um, wiffy. So I use bio all the time now.

It is a myth that bio is responsible for skin irritation. Most countries only have bio anyway.

I don't think liquid or powder makes any difference. I use Persil liquid because it's cheap at Home Bargains at the moment (classy, eh?) and would never use Ariel because it smells.....common.

expatinscotland · 22/03/2011 18:45

My DD1 has sensitive skin, so I use non-bio (whatever's on offer). That's it. No softeners, either.

peachybums · 22/03/2011 20:09

Ive always used Bio as thats what i use on everybodys else clothes and i wasnt going to do seperate washes lol. I did use the free fairy in the bounty packs but it never got dirt out of DSs clothes. My 3 DCs have never had any reactions, find one that works for you and stick to that. We use almat from aldi and it works a treat and its cheap.

beijingaling · 23/03/2011 05:55

I did the initial wash in nonbio then couldnt get any more so switched to a sensitive skin bio then just whatever the whole family uses. Dont use softener though. Never had a problem here!

MickyLee · 23/03/2011 09:40

I second what emsyj states. Bio does not in most cases cause skin problems, it's the fragrance.

mousymouse · 23/03/2011 13:07

I used/use whatever I use anyway.
I find non-bio doesn't shift the dirt and our skins (2 with excema here) do not react to it. agree with others who say it's the parfum that causes most problems.

Stangirl · 23/03/2011 21:43

Fairy non-bio - Which? recommended

gemmalou123 · 23/03/2011 22:30

fairy! we stock up like mad people and get about 6 XL bottles of the gel. asda often have it cheap when they do baby/cleaning/home events. I think it gets out stains better than the cheaper stuff. Also comfort as fabric softer if you use it, but I personally only use it on towells..
