Best waterproof mattress protectors

Have got a lovely new kingsize bed which DP and I currently share with 4 month old DS2 and occasionally 2.11yr DS1 too; hence need for decent waterproof mattress protector

We currently have one which has a towelling upper and very rubbery underside. It does the job but takes any absolute age to dry.
Is this just the nature of waterproof sheets?

I'd be very grateful for recommendations of good ones as think I need more in view of nearly daily bedchanging ATM.

I always use a towel/cloth to dry off the waterproof side of the protector once it has been washed - means it takes less time for the rest of it to dry.

I suppose they're all a bit of a PITA to dry due to their inherent waterproof-ness.

Ooh, watching this thread! Can anybody recommend a waterproof mattress protector that can be wiped clean? Having the towelling layer kind of defeats the object for me because you have to wash the thing each time it gets wet! I got one from ebay last time but it split quite quickly. Ideally I'd like one made from the same stuff that hospital mattresses and pillows are covered with.

We got one from Dunelms and it's fab! No crinkly waterproofy noises and it was cheap and cotton padded. Bargain!

I just got one from hippychick & it's lovely, a cross between a thick sheet & a thin blanket, not plasticy or rubbery at all - haven't "tested" it yet though!

A vote against dunelms here (although we don't necessarily have the same one). I found it fine in terms of washing, drying etc but it makes the bed so hot that we didn't use it for very long - I was constantly throwing all the covers off and waking up through the night.

These waterproof mattress protectors are great. They're not wipeable as they don't feel like a piece of plastic - you only notice the cotton (as the waterproof backing is incredibly thin). They don't make you all hot and sweaty, not uncomfortable or noisy - and last for years.

There isn't a cot bed size so bought an alternative one for my son when he was in a cot bed. It was literally a piece of plastic - really horrible! I ended up throwing it out and using a single waterproof protector on his bed (wrapped round underneath!).

Another vote for Hippychick here. Washes and drys well, not sweaty, or rustly, 3 years on still as good as new.

Hippychick all the way. Fab construction, comfy not sweaty and totally washable and waterproof. Been using ours for 6 years and still going strong through 2 DC. I have used pampers and huggies bed mats too when staying with friends or rellies. They're very good.

We have the hippychick style ones and they are great, but they do take an AGE to dry. I can barely turn one around within a day unless the sun and wind smile good fortune on my garden.
