Part 2 - If you're house is cluttered and you're Mad as a Hare, join March Fledgling Flyers and get it all square

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/03/2011 22:30

This is the second March Fledgling Flyers thread, all newcomers are welcome.

This is the thread that follows the Flylady website (loosely) for getting your home decluttered and your housework into routines, whilst dispensing tea and chat freely.

We have a fairly relaxed attitude to Flying and take some of the babysteps - such as getting dressed to lace-up shoes - with a pinch of salt. We also strongly advise against signing up for the FlyLady emails.

We will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, using one of the following methods:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

If you are overwhelmed by the mess in your home, start with just one thing: shine your sink. It's amazing what you can achieve by just doing a bit at a time!

Hi all. Can I join you? I know swan from the old flylady threads (hi swan Smile hope your 3 are ok). I have been plodding along doing the bare minimum but really need to get cracking again (funny how sunshine shows all the dust and smudges!).
I am also on a mission to save money as we are pretty broke Sad. So perhaps you can help me with that too.

The good news is that Dad has bought us a dishwasher which comes tomorrow Grin. So I'm hoping to use that as a kick start to the new organised (and frugal) me Smile.

Anyway best get the kids to bed. Catch up tomorrow.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/03/2011 20:32

Oh, so tired today, don't know why. Does anyone mind if I give the roundup a swerve?

Thank you all for your comments re DS. Linzer - he can't manage sh, th and ll very well either but F is by far the worst.

I would like to say welcome to Scattyspice, I am sure you will find lots of help and encouragement on here.

And, I wasn't actually going to do this quote of the day thing every day, but Ellie has provided us with a beauty today whilst telling us what she is having for tea, I give you "we are having shepherds pis as well!"

I will have you all know my shepherd's pis was very tasty Wink.

Welcome scatty. Yay for a new dishwasher, mine has broken and can't afford to replace at the moment. This in turn makes my kitchen look even messier than normal because i cant hide stuff in the dishwasher Grin.

I think the tiredness is catching because i am going to have an early night tonight. I have not put out clothes, swished anx swiped, shined my sink or cleared away from dinner. I am a fly rebel and proud. Having said that, i will now go and assume my rightful position in the naughty cornerGrin.

Ihatecobwebs · 24/03/2011 22:46

I've gone for an early night tonight, and am already in bed Shock. Very little flying took place indoors today, as I took advantage of the weather (and my DM) to work on the allotment this morning and the garden this afternoon.

Asparagus bed is now finished, pickling onions and one lot of summer onions in, and brassica bed half prepped.

The garden is in a major "redecoration" state at the moment. I'm altering the layout to create two beds for DS, and a new area for my garden veg. DH wants more lawn, so am taking out plants from one bed. Have renovated one bed, and will now use that space to put in plants from other beds. DH also wants border along length of house (fairly long) to go this year, so am working on removing shrubs, rehoming plants etc. I'm limited on how much more I can do until next week now, as my green bin is about full.

Done
Morning routine
DM take DS to playgroup
S/s
Cook potatoes for lunch
Washing up
Make beds
Vacuum through
Allotment
Collect DS from playgroup
Lunch
Garden (DM managed DS for me, gardening with him, and tricycling)
Cook tea
Tea
Evening routine
Part of bedtime routine
Take DM home
Rest of bedtime routine
Rewrite tomorrow's list to include all things that didn't happen today
Early night
Browse MN etc

Ihatecobwebs · 24/03/2011 22:54

Nettie cooty is hard to explain, but obvious when you feel it. Its that sort of shudder that goes through you, possibly itchy feeling (depending on circumstances), includes saying or thinking "yuck", can include going goosepimply - when someone is talking about personal/medical type stuff that you hope you and your family can avoid - includes fleas, lice and insect infestations, parasitic worms.

Toffee supermum is not hard, when the makings are already in the freezer, and just the cream needs to be bought. Then I just defrost fruit during the day, whip up the cream, and make them up at the table - I prefer small individual ones.

NettieSpaghetti · 24/03/2011 23:16

Welcome scatty mind the shepherds pis on the way in.

Read all about you girlies from speech therapy to wet sheets and dark kitchens. Can't remember whose where and why.

I'm checking in because I completed everything on my list and did my online shop, and found a bustier for a murder mystery party Grin

Dh has come to bed early Shock and ive Just told him to get up again if he's going to grumble about all little noises. Cat purring, sat box whirling, my tap tapping. Grin

Better get off to sleep now.

Hope you all have a peaceful night with dry beds and clean sinks Grin

NettieSpaghetti · 24/03/2011 23:22

cobwebs thanks im going to try and use that next time someone creeps me out.

lost Definately think naughty corner is not for you at the mo. Perhaps try the other corners. Flyers anonymous corner for those who fly on the quiet Grin

I always use the force!

elliepac · 25/03/2011 06:46

Thank god it's Friday!

No list posting going on today as am not sure what I will find when i get home. I have nothing else of interest to say.

Better go and get ready to educate the nation's youth!

feetheart · 25/03/2011 07:06

Morning Ellie - hope the youth (or at least their parents) are appreciative :)

Busy again here, mainly with non-Flying stuff I fear.

Had Council of War planning meeting for Mother's Day crafts thing last night and have things to cover in spray paint and 'jewels' to chop up before Monday. Also need to do posters and some sort of class list for teachers to remind children plus deliver big box of 'stuff' to Reception who are doing it on their own!
At least next time (Father's Day) we will have more of a clue what we are doing as it feels like we are winging it this time - eek!

So list for today:

  • Morning routine
  • Photocopy newsletter 30 x 14
  • Clear fridge
  • Shopping list - with lovely printed out master list (thanks Swan I think)
  • Shop
  • Zap shopping and put away
  • Bag up £130 in coins as creating their own Hotspot!
  • Write to Tax Office
  • Work - 1 x invoice and a stroppy phone-call to chase money
  • Time in garden, hopefully sorting it out
  • Park after school as no dancing
  • Thrown-together easy dinner - ham and cream cheese pasta for DC, yesterday's Bolognese for DH and I :o

Hope you all have a good day.

scattyspice · 25/03/2011 08:17

Good morning to you too feet Smile. And you scatty, swan has bigged you up so I am expecting you to be some kind of oracle of flyingness WinkGrin.

lost you are putting us naughty corners to shame, you may have to leave naughty corner I think for being too good Wink.

swanriver · 25/03/2011 09:32

Feet that was WhoKnows or Linzer with the master shopping list, don't think I'll ever ever get to that stage. Although weird thing is that with my arthritic mum (who is constantly shopping for groceries in unplanned manner for very large nos of people and complaining about it) that I could see clearly what she should do, ie: monthly delivery of heavy stuff like dw powder, jam, loo rolls, rice, pasta, washing powder, lightbulbs, and then, continue to shop ad hoc when she fancied...
It is always much easier to see where other people are going wrong with their arrangements isn't it? Blush

Children at school, feel worn out already by
ds2 screaming about playground difficulties and his elastic tie/strict teacher, dd suddenly deciding at last minute that ds1 had stolen her box, and
ds1 needing sponsorship for day in a cardboard box (not friends and family apparently Shock how is that meant to work???[grr]

Kitchen not too bad (though cluttered Blush
List
pick up parcel from postoffice (just hope it hasn't been returned)
go to SIL for day to tend to baby, perhaps get some Swan groceries whilst out with pram

after school...will have to think about that later

swanriver · 25/03/2011 09:35

Ellie I just meant Scatty knows everything about Flying, as she was on the previous thread for about three years with me and many others. And she is very sensible.

elliepac · 25/03/2011 09:50

That's what I meant Smile - as opposed to me who know nothing!

Toffeefudgecake · 25/03/2011 10:08

Am on the final batch of work today. Mum is being fantastic - got DS2 up, gave him breakfast and helped him dress. When I arrived back from the school run, she had cleared out and reorganised my fridge (overheard "Tsk, tsk, I wouldn't let my fridge get into this state". It's true - she wouldn't.). She is now supervising DS1 whilst he does BBC Bitesize, then she's taking him out to help her do some grocery shopping. She is a star - and one of those lucky people who is naturally tidy, unlike her daughter.

All I have to do is finish this work, without all the usual interruptions. Grin

Welcome to Scatty.

Normal Flying duties in the Toffee household will be resumed later.

NettieSpaghetti · 25/03/2011 11:17

good morning everyone

mixed bag of a morning here. dc are both ill so both off nursery. Do you ever have one of those days when you just need an adult to tell you what to do? Even at the middle aged age of 35 i was agog this morning. ds up all night coughing sore throat, bit better by light of day wanted to stay at home, then he didnt, then he did. dd wanted to go nursery. so we all got into the car, cue huge paddy from dd who screamed about not being well and needing medicine. all got out of car. ds decided not well enough. dd decided she was and wanted to go. one trip to nursery with one dd, took coat and jacket off and she collapsed in a heap next to me and made me look like horrible mum who selfishly dragged her outta sick bed. Grin

if only i had an adult around this morning who could have told me what to do... Hmm Grin

anyway as a result i have been super productive.

cleaned and cleared bathroom cabinet, two bags of old toiletries like over 4 years covered and dust and crusty in bin.
dc rooms tidied
snug tidied
washing machine cleaned and on for a tub clean wash Blush wonder anything was getting at all clean, it was minging.
moved toiletries from upstairs to my lovely dressing table. must plan bath and pamper session as have lotsa lovely things just for me.

still to

sweep floors including bathroom and snug Blush brush doesnt often get taken upstairs.
amend ocado order
fold laundry
hoover up stairs
find something for unplanned dinner as dc were supposed to eat at nursery today. (have got beef and a mix of veg which say irish stew on it but talk about stout? what to improve with? vodka? jack daniels, kahula. oh and it says make dumplings Hmm never done that before, maybe dc can help.

Anyway better get on ignoring flyladys words of 15 bursts and change dvd for sickly children so i can get some more done.

Have lovely days everyone

swanriver · 25/03/2011 11:22

Toffee Smile to your mum!

It is the most beautiful day here, magnolia in the front garden now in full bloom - pity about all the building rubbish still lingering....

SIL has a helper today, and is feeling much better after her op last weekend, so I'm off duty aunty after all. Next Tuesday onwards I may be called in again, so will attempt to tidy up now

List
parcel done
long walk done
tackle clean laundry put away
ironing pile out
fridge wipe down - um...20 onions, a bag of potatoes, some cream and not much else which isn't mouldy
tip run
sweep terrace
what's for dinner, clearly gratin dauphinoise Grin - make
buy some weekend groceries AND hoover bags

tackle master bedroom

swanriver · 25/03/2011 11:32

Nettie I think adults just make it up as they go along Grin
whilst pretending they are in complete control

any way at least it's a lovely day to have them at home, and they can potter outside if they are feeling better, and no harm done (except to work schedule)

I think I am going to go straight to the tip or I'll never go. It is going to take several hours loading adjusting car driving tipping but at least it will be DONE.

swanriver · 25/03/2011 11:33

First I have to find some dirty clothes to wear whilst loading rubble etc
Why is you can never find dirty manky clothes when you need them?
