Part 2 - If you're house is cluttered and you're Mad as a Hare, join March Fledgling Flyers and get it all square

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/03/2011 22:30

This is the second March Fledgling Flyers thread, all newcomers are welcome.

This is the thread that follows the Flylady website (loosely) for getting your home decluttered and your housework into routines, whilst dispensing tea and chat freely.

We have a fairly relaxed attitude to Flying and take some of the babysteps - such as getting dressed to lace-up shoes - with a pinch of salt. We also strongly advise against signing up for the FlyLady emails.

We will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, using one of the following methods:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

If you are overwhelmed by the mess in your home, start with just one thing: shine your sink. It's amazing what you can achieve by just doing a bit at a time!

She's a poet and she didn't know it! I'm sure next month's thread title is in there somewhere!

Darts glad you made a decision. Another person concerned about SATS. Am I very behind? Feeling very worried now about my apparent lack of informedness...will ask ds's teacher tomorrow what's happening. I don't think I've looked at his homework since he was off sick in November as the teacher said they should do it independently!
cobweb ds loved Night Mail video - all those clankng engines and pistons. We read the poem again tonight. In fact lots of poems. Thank you Nettie!

Toffeefudgecake · 17/03/2011 23:47

You've started something, Lost...

Flylady says: "Shine your sink",
And we all obey, with a wink,
Because, I would guess,
In spite of the mess,
We would all rather have a large drink.

PositiveAttitude · 18/03/2011 07:04

Good morning,

Sorry been awol for a few days. Yesterday was my day off, so I had a day of flying, fairly successfully, and I had a smug feeling last evening.
I seem to be going a bit against fat fairy indoctrination, but I am having days of doing not a lot, then a day of getting it all done. Hmm

Loooooooooooooong day at work today, so yet another day of not getting a lot else done.

So, just popping in to mark my spot and wave hello. Smile

LinzerTorte · 18/03/2011 07:11

Morning all,

Am afraid I'm not feeling inspired or indeed awake enough to continue with the poetry, but the poems made me smile when I got up this morning. Smile

It's a horrible wet day here today - I think we may have had our one day of spring on Tuesday, and now it's back to cold and rainy. I might as well be back in Wales.

Today's list:

Morning routine
Mission
Paid work
15 min decluttering
Make shopping list
Clean fridge
Recycle paper
Purge magazines
Polish shoes
Clean out bag
File papers
Afternoon routine
DD2 to friend's
DD1 to dyslexia lesson
Food shopping
DD1: letters x2
Sort out photos to send to GPs
Pay membership subscription and decide whether need indemnity insurance
Evening routine

Will make a start by putting the washing on - at least the pull-ups seem to be working and I haven't had to change DS's sheets for days.

NettieSpaghetti · 18/03/2011 07:24

good morning

A rather "pooey" start to the day. Dd took her nappy off and did a poo in her room all over her pink carpet and then walked it up and down the stairs.

Finished cleaning that up to come downstairs and find her standing in (on the lid of) the dishwasher doing a pee!! Shock Angry Confused what's going on!!!!

Have gone back to bed, still not feeling that great and it's dh turn to do breakfast. To go to work or stay in bed this morning, dc off this afternoon so will have to be functioning by then. Can someone give me permission to stay in bed and not go to work please?

Hope you all have lovely Fridays Grin least I got that right! Grin

LinzerTorte · 18/03/2011 07:37

Oh dear, Nettie - what a start to the day! I think you should definitely stay in bed this morning and conserve your energy for this afternoon. If you force yourself to get on with things while you're still not feeling well, it will probably take you that much longer to recover in the long run. So permission granted. Grin

NettieSpaghetti · 18/03/2011 07:38

Thanks linzer Grin now will you just tell the husband so he can tell mil too. Thanks Grin

LinzerTorte · 18/03/2011 07:53

Just show him my post Nettie; I'm sure that will do the trick. Grin

DartsRus · 18/03/2011 10:15

I have sneaked on while no-one's in the office! Shock

I have had a big argument with DD this morning. she knows my routine in the mornings now, but waited until I was walking out the door to ask if I can jazz her hair up for red nose day Angry I told her "no", to make a point, and that she could have come to me earlier while I was finishing my cuppa and watching the news. I'll see what she's like later.....

So,

Morning routine done
morning shopping done (on way to work)
work in progress (well, in a minute!)
washing - 1 load in before collecting dcs
collect dcs and deliver to GPs for tea
new front tyres on car
new headlight bulb on car
book MOT for next thursday
pay road tax (at least this is only £30)
buy presents for Dad's birthday, which is tomorrow (I know what to get so it shouldn't take long)
cook tea for DP and me

I would guess that as DP goes in a little later on Fridays (with corresponding later finish), that the dishwasher has been emptied and 1 load of washing might already be done by the time I get home. He does help quite a bit!

And after that, I think a Wine will be in order.

Hey, if we've had daffs and now a shamrock, can we have a rose for St George's day?

feetheart · 18/03/2011 10:45

Toffeefudgecake · 18/03/2011 11:46

Nettie - your post made me laugh so much. I'm so sorry - it must have been awful to have to deal with all that poo, followed by wee, but ....Grin. And yes, you should definitely stay in bed this morning. Oh, and on the subject of getting the days mixed up (which you haven't today), you also made me laugh yesterday by mentioning that you tried to get one of your children potty trained at 18! Now, that is leaving it late!

Anyway, I have stayed off MN this morning and insisted DS work in a separate room so that I could get work stuff done. As a result, I have been able to concentrate and have sent my first batch of work back. Have also been made a plan of action for getting the rest of it done, so I'm feeling a bit less 'headless chicken' about it all now.

Am on very, very basic Flying routines at the moment. Managed to swish and swipe this morning and to get a load of washing on - er, that's it so far. The house is a tip, but I'm ignoring it.

DS2 is being very tricky about going to school at the moment. The TA has to keep taking him from me and whisking him off to help her with the fruit snack or something. It's hardly surprising, as he knows his brother stays at home. I feel bad for him, but I really can't have both of them here, particularly with work on too.

Back to work now....

LadyInPink · 18/03/2011 11:52

Morning all! Smile A new thread and a new start for me as have lost nearly a week with DD off poorly (she's back at school today complete with red nose, red ribbons and red cardigan).

Have done the weekly shop, bought presents for 2 kids parties this weekend, wedding card for another friend but that is it so far. I intend to:

Clean bathroom and kitchen, hoover, and continue to get some work done before the weekend is on us.

I'm out of my routine now so need a swift kick to get me motivated again.

See y'all later Smile

snotdroolanddirtybums · 18/03/2011 12:11

Ihatecobwebs · 18/03/2011 12:34

Just drifting on while I finish up paying the bills. Will be making lunch in a minute, DS is "STARVING" again.

Its raining again, which has upset my plans - no playground, gardening, putting washing out, and a DS to tire out indoors this afternoon.

Somehow left Toddler Group with a load of wooden thingys to paint for Mothers Day, and having agreed to help another mother with her daughter's birthday party (which will be held at Toddlers). She wants me to do the craft activity with them - so need to do some thinking, planning, buying and prep.

Morning routine done
DH to work done
Toddler group done
RR living room done
Wash up done
S/s done
Make beds done
Sort handbag done
Renew car insurance done ouch
Pay bills done
Make lunch
Declutter
Mobile library
Walk into village to buy milk

Cook tea

funambulist · 18/03/2011 13:59

Nettie you poor thing!
SDBD your bathroom must be amazing. Does your heart lift every time you go in? I had a go at the shower but just did a bit. Mind you it does look a lot better.
Lady glad DD is back at school. I bet she would have hated to have missed comic relief.
Toffee good for you getting work done this morning.

I went for coffee with friends again today. I really don't go that often but each of my three DCs classes have had coffee mornings very close together. I'm not great when I make a late start on flying. I really have to push myself to get things done.

done list

Sent all DCs to school appropriately attired in red clothing and noses.
Remembered cakes for DS2's class to sell and money for DS1 and DD to buy them back at break time. Smile
coffee - learnt some useful information about what is going in DS1's class
swish and swipe
hot spot x 1
washing on
dishwasher unloaded and restacked
shiny sink
printed out directions to DD's concert and from there to DS2's friend's house so I can collect him later.
school paperwork
entered dates in diary

to do

put away dry washing
hang up wet
15 mins declutter/mission
piano practice
try and get the houseblessing done before Monday Blush
at least think about the class I need to prepare
hot spot - again
lay out clothes for the morning - very hit and miss this one.

Celestialstarlight · 18/03/2011 15:20

Will try do do better next week Hmm

LostInTheBlackHole · 18/03/2011 17:05

Offers Celestial a seat in the naughty corner. you are welcome here Wink I am almost perpetually resident here atm tbh.

Toffeefudgecake · 18/03/2011 17:07

I haven't done any flying either, Celestial. Have managed to gets DS to do a page for his topic book though, which was a huge achievement as he hates handwriting (would do it all on the computer if he could). And I have done lots of work!

About to tackle the kitchen, which has not been touched since breakfast time Blush. Then off to collect DS2 from his childminder.

swanriver · 18/03/2011 17:20

Hello, all, thank goodness they asked nothing of us for Red Nose Day but a few jokes and a few quid Grin

Looked after baby niece again today, which turned into long stretch, as SIL now has to go for horrible op. Twins' party is this weekend, which I have to prepare for, plus various other activities and DB is not easiest person to deal with so I'm trying to make a balance between offering help and getting very stressed at too many people to keep happy. DB I'm afraid to say did not help at all when ours were babies, and DH remembers this with a vengeance Sad

Saw ds1's teacher and she said he needed to
a) find a friend as he was a bit lonely
b) have a tutor if he wanted to get a leg up for next year. We agreed Sats themselves weren't the issue, just that they were a measure of what child could do, and he can't do level 5 in either Literacy or Numeracy, and it would be nice if he could Grin

LadyInPink · 18/03/2011 17:52

Thanks funambulist she had a really good day and earnt herself 2 merits for handing homework in on time even though she was off school Grin (mean mummy that i am collected her homework to do when she felt well enough - she did miss school and enjoyed doing a bit of work)

Have done my bathroom and it could rival SDBD 's (well almost) Grin. Went round and de-limscaled all round the shower doors, taps, plug holes etc and scrubbed it all out - looks amazing! De-limscaled the kettle too but with white wine vinegar. DH has asked me to check with all you FLYers that it is ok to do this and i'm not going to corrode the metal (chrome plated) by doing this . PLEASE ADVISE ME IF I@M DOING IT WRONG Thanks ladies Smile

nettie i did have a smile at your morning post regarding the nappy story (or lack of nappy thereof) Grin Poor you, hope you've had a relaxing day and spent at least some of it in bed!

swanriver · 18/03/2011 22:04

cobweb I want you to run my party for me.
We are making miniature gardens after a visit to the Cinema - and I'm already feeling nervous.

Toffee the problem with the kitchen is I could spend all day finding things to clean or things to cook, and never escape. But it is the only warm room in the house.
well done on ds topic page Grin

fun coffee mornings are indispensable. Also coffee with friends. I spent an hour and half walking round the park with pram and old friend/acquaintance this morning and learnt so much Smile

Done
bought half food for party, also weekend food and general stock up
bought stuff for miniature gardens
nice glass of wine with dh
avoided bedtime with dcs whlst shoppng Grin
had a laugh with ds1 ( I was pretending to be a horse whisperer and then a horse - trying to explain how not to go up to people and crowd them if you wanted to be friends etc)

it was raining in London today...

Nettie the weekend is nigh
