Flour mites

Found mites in the flour bags tonight, and I've not had the flour that long. Apart from emptying the whole cupboard and giving it a good clean, what else would ensure that if there's a nest of these things, etc, I can get rid of them?

Sometimes the mites can be lurking on the outside of the packaging in the supermarket and get inside when you open so it's not a matter of how long you've had the flour for. You need to check all dry foods that are stored in the same cupboard, cereals, sugar, powdered milk, cocoa etc (they are sometimes on the outside of the packaging - if unsure put some double sided sticky tape on the package they will stick to this). Get rid of anything that's infected and put out in the rubbish straight away. Hoover out the cupboard and clean with something like dettox. Make sure the cupboard is completely dry before re-stocking. I lost everying from my baking cupboard at christmas - a nightmare - but it has to be done. Good Luck!

Thanks very much, luckily I'd run the cupboard down regarding ingredients and was comtemplating a big shop to re-stock when I found the things.

Also, decanting flour into airtight tubs and not keeping in the paper bags will prevent them from entering/exiting any future flour.
