Any recommendations for freezer to go in garage

We have a tall freezer in our garage. Its the only place we can fit one. Having worked fine through the depths of winter its now packed up.

Looking for a replacement, it seems that nearly every brand is specified to work down to only +10C ambient temperature - I understand why, to do with the coolant.

The one exception I've found is Beko, which is rated to -15C

However, DH has heard that this is a generally unreliable make.

In practice, freezers seem to work lower than +10 so its not a clear choice.

Does anyone have advice - we don't mind paying a good price, unlike most appliances you really lose when a freezer breaks. We don't have floor space for a chest freezer, its got to be tall type.

Thanks!

We have had a tall Beko fridge for 8 years and a Beko freezer for 11 years they are fab - why pay more?

Thanks candle - interesting, there do seem to be a lot of very bad reviews out there. Maybe their build quality is variable and you've been lucky - or maybe its that people are more likely to grumble than praise.

We actually bought 'reject' ones. One was marked on the top and the other had a tiny blue mark on the handle. We got them for a lot less because of that. My flash sister bought a SMUG SMEG (the same week as I got my Beko fridge) and it only lasted about four years and cost her a fortune!

Its pretty obvious with SMEG you're spending over the odds for a pretty exterior, which obviously is irrelevant for a garage. (anyway, as a Red Dwarf afficionado I could never have a smeg appliance in my house Grin)

My freezer in the garage has been working fine for the last nine years. Temperatures were regularly at -9 last winter.

Can't remember the make. Seem to think it's a french one.

pointydog · 16/03/2011 19:22

Smegs, like agas, are hideously expensive style items.

We have a candy and a fridgaire in the shed. most freezers are fine in a garage or shed. never a smeg though, especially not if hidden in garage, whats the point ?

pointydog · 16/03/2011 19:31

ah, firgidaire. Maybe that's what I have. A frenchy one.

pointydog · 16/03/2011 19:32

I have a zanussi tumble drier too(condenser). No problem.

I have a Beko fridge and freezer in my cellar. They were Which? best buys and have worked fine so far - and they were cheap!
