Is it worth the extra to get a catalytic oven?

Looking at new ovens and I'm wondering if we should pay extra for partial or full catalytic? Is it worth it?

Pyrolytic seems to expensive and I can't believe it's good for the electricity bills to run the pyrolytic function.

I'm tempted because oven cleaning is such a faff

Also, we can't easily afford the extra, but we'd try to stretch to it if people think it's really worth it.

I think it's a coating inside the oven which means that when you're using it over certain temperature it actually cleans itself at the same time. So not more grubby oven to deal with.

I think the partially catalytic means some bits do that (the element hopefully) and other bits you have to do by hand, but I think those are the easy to reach, easy to clean bits.

So is it the whole interior excl glass door? Cos the doors the hardest bit unless the glass bit slides out to go in the dishwasher as well.

I think that catalytic ones don't clean the door, but pyrolytic ones do.

So I think if paying the extra it's probably worth paying a bit more to get pyrolytic. I'd just love to hear from someone who has one.

Just got a pyrolytic one from IKEA - they needn't cost the earth :) and all their appliances are make by Whirlpool or AEG/Electrolux. Long warranties - longer than their branded equivalents - and quite high on the energy saving ratings.

I was wondering about ikea appliances, I wasn't sure how good they are. I didn't know who they were made by. Have you had theirs before?
