How often do you pull out large items of furniture and hoover/dust behind it ..... electrician was here yesterday and i'm rather embarrassed!

Couldn't believe how much dust and 'stuff' had accumulated behind tv unit, cupboards, sofa etc.

The electrician is back tomorrow and I'm cleaning like mad this morning which DH thinks is completely bonkers as there will be brick dust and chaos here all week. He says the bloke will have seen a lot worse.

I just feel like a dirty cow who should be on Kim and Aggie, yet I thought I was pretty hot on cleanliness.

Every week as MIL ways had a spotless house when DH was young so I have to live up to that.

My mom was a slattern so I didn't have much of a role model IYSWIM

Every week. My sofas are not against the wall though. We would not move bookcases as they are full and it would be a daft waste of effort.

usualsuspect · 13/03/2011 10:47

not very often

gorionine · 13/03/2011 10:55

Under the sofa every week but I cannot remember last time Imoved the tv unit/bookshelves.Blush.

MaureenMLove · 13/03/2011 11:00

About 10 mins before an engineer arrives to fix something! Grin

Bonsoir · 13/03/2011 11:02

Every week, except for bookcases and double bed.

northerngirl41 · 13/03/2011 17:36

Telescopic duster maybe once a month-ish..... DH has dust allergies so we need to be pretty thorough - otherwise I'd not bother, a out of sight, out of mind!

ThreeBubbasAndManyBumps · 13/03/2011 17:52

About 10 mins after an engineer has left, because then, and only then, do I remember how yucky it can get. Same goes for under the sofa cushions Blush

spilttheteaagain · 13/03/2011 20:42

Hmm well we built the TV unit about 3 years ago and it hasn't moved yet.

CeliaFate · 14/03/2011 09:03

Behind the settees get cleaned twice a week.
Under the settee - maybe twice a year Blush
Parquet flooring + cat + 2 kids = Lots of dust!

mousymouse · 14/03/2011 09:06

I don't, but my cleaner does every other week :o
she finds all sorts of treasures under there, mainly children's toys, and is allowed to keep the coins Wink

dikkertjedap · 15/03/2011 20:49

Hoover and mop every day behind sofas, TV, under tables, beds and cupboards/bedside tables. However, only once a year behind wardrobes and large bookshelves as I have to empty them before I can move them with DH help.

breatheslowly · 15/03/2011 20:57

Umm, this has never occurred to me to do. I keep on learning about things that need cleaning on MN. I don't dare look at a fly thread.

PercyPigPie · 16/03/2011 22:47

Sofas every few weeks. Heavy bookcases and cabinets - when we move house.

allergyhelp · 17/03/2011 12:18

only have small flat and not cluttered to tend to pull the couch out every other day or brush under.. the bed though is a different kettle of fish as the fitted units on each side of the bed stop it from being moved out to clean entire area so have to do under each side each day with one of the long hairy duster things until I have hubby to hold up the bed and let me under to mop...

kbaby · 17/03/2011 21:01

Oh gosh, I've depressed myself now. I clean behind small moveable furniture such as coffee tables weekly but the last time I cleaned behind that was when we bought a new one last year! I thought I was a tidy person

orienteerer · 17/03/2011 21:03

Very, very rarelyGrin
