Salt and pepper pot - (boring - sorry)

This is even boring me, so I'm sorry for imposing my utter sadness on you all. Grin

My salt and pepper pots are the ones that are grinders for peppercorns and rock/sea salt.

I love them, but they leak all the time. Everytime you pick them up to clean the table, more comes out. Equals waste and constant mess.

Have I just got a cheap and nasty set or are there better ones out there that don't leak all the time?

God, I bet you're all asleep now. Sad

I don't own a salt grinder, but my pepper grinder doesn't leak pepper.

droves · 12/03/2011 14:02

have you tightened the screw bits at the top of the grinders ? mine leaks when its not tight....and theyre uber-posh stainless steel ones.

Ooopsadaisy · 12/03/2011 14:23

Thanks droves.

They are hand tightened as much as I can, so I got the pliers out.

I've tightened them as tight as I dare and there is less leakage but it's still happening.

I think they are a bit rubbish.

Any advice on a good brand if I wanted to replace them? I think these were cheapies from Asda or Wilkinsons.

i actually think its a bit hit and miss , have had cheapies before and they worked fine.
If you want posh ones look here

Thanks droves.

I'll have a look around!

Thank you for suffering my tediously boring life with me! Grin

Upside down ones are the answer: here

You turn it upside down to grind but it sits the right way up so no 'crumbs'.

Can't believe nobody thought of it before. Mine were from TK Maxx.

HedgeSparrow · 16/03/2011 13:47

Brilliant greenlotus! What a great idea. The crumbs are v annoying.

Ooopsadaisy · 16/03/2011 13:50

greenlotus - I think I might actually love you.

Could you love someone so anally retentive about something so utterly boring in return?

..... and even cheaper on Amazon!

Oh, greenlotus - I can see we have such a happy future ahead of us ....!!!!

You're welcome: I tell you it's always worth having a look in TK Maxx. I just pick the threads on MN that have easy answers, that's all Grin. Happy grinding!

We probably do have a happy future in perfecting the choice of kitchen implements, next on my list is the Perfect Cutlery Drainer Blush.

Ooopsadaisy · 19/03/2011 17:12

greenlotus - today I have collected my Cole and Mason Inverta Flip salt and pepper grinders from Tesco direct at the bargain price of £15.00.

They are a thing of beauty.

Human engineering at it's very finest in every sense.

I insist we have them on the top-table at our wedding.

I am on the look out for the cutlery drainer for you. What are your specifications?

TBH I need to wait until new kitchen, one we get a dishwasher I might not even need a cutlery drainer. I quite like the Guzzini / Alessi kitchen things.

Bunbaker · 19/03/2011 18:50

I second the upside down idea. I have some that I bought from Lakeland several years ago and they are brilliant. If you get some with a ceramic mechanism they will work really well.
