Matching kettle and toaster - a must, unnecessary or weird?

I'm getting a new kettle as old one has a busted filter and leaves teeny bits of limescale in drinks etc. Not a problem for us but might be for dc2 when I start doing FF.
I have a dark grey (almost black) plastic kettle ad toaster than match.
I want a red kettle to match other kitchen things I have. Should I get the matching toaster (about £30) as well?
Is that weird to have them match/ not match?
Or totally irrelevant?
My nesting instinct says buy it but my sensible brain says I don't need it!

i you like it and can afford it, go for it. it is unnecessary, of course, which I think you know!

2cats2many · 12/03/2011 13:26

Unnecessary.

meditrina · 12/03/2011 13:31

Weird, but harmless. If that's what you want in your kitchen, then get it.

BertieBotts · 12/03/2011 13:32

Is it a specific shade of red, ie would be hard to match later?

And how old is your toaster - and can you afford it? If your toaster is likely to last a long time yet, do you think the red range will be discontinued?

It's unnecessary, but it would be the kind of thing that would please me and make me smile first thing in the morning (or when making middle of the night bottle Grin). If you're the same then why not? :)

Could you buy the toaster now and store it in a cupboard for such time as the current toaster breaks? Or keep the old toaster for a spare. I wouldn't want to waste a perfectly good item that works is the only dilemma.

MirandaWest · 12/03/2011 13:35

If you can afford it then do it :)

wendylovesbob · 12/03/2011 13:37

If it would make you happy and you can afford it, the do it.

Personally I prefer not matching. :)

Ooopsadaisy · 12/03/2011 13:50

I used to think everything should match, but now I realise life is too short.

My advice - spend as little time around domestic appliances as humanly possible.

Loiter near the wine rack instead. Grin

not into matching myself.

No to matchy matchy stuff here.

ChocChipWine · 12/03/2011 20:17

mine match!

Tia4 · 13/03/2011 08:32

Mine too!

PepsiPopcorn · 13/03/2011 22:14

To go overboard on matchy stuff is a bit twee (although I do have a few things that match!)

mousymouse · 14/03/2011 11:52

I replace each when it breaks, so not matching.

Pomi · 14/03/2011 14:06

There is no reason they should match.

allergyhelp · 17/03/2011 12:11

Im just thinking of years ago when nothing matched. remember fibreglass curtains all flowery that went with nothing else in the house.. the wallpaper was fussy too with odd scatter cushions and a way out jazzy patterned carpet.. enought to cause a seizure..

stegasaurus · 18/03/2011 11:03

I couldn't care less about matching kettle and toaster. We do have matching ones, but that is because my in-laws bought them for us when we moved in. We already had perfectly good kettle and toaster that didn't match, so obviously this is something that matters a lot more to them than me.

ethelina · 18/03/2011 11:22

My toaster is relegated to the utility and my kettle sits on the job so no matching here. I probably would coordinate, but not necessarily match, if I bought them new together.

I find it physically impossible to generate enough enthusiasm about the appearance of domestic appliances to bother making sure that they match.

PepsiPopcorn · 18/03/2011 12:05

Thinking again, the "matching" things have been somewhat out of fashion for a while. It's been cool to have non-matching stuff. So I reckon matching appliances are due a comeback :D
