Cleaning a dirty oil pan

Hi all, looking for some MN help! I have a lovely metal pan, part of a set, that my OH has ruined by using it several times to fry chips in, without cleaning in between. The pan is now stained all the way round and hass a dull brown colour. Any tips on how to get it clean? Scrubbing hasn't helped!

Hand it to your OH and tell him not to give it back until it's spotless.

Thanks for the soda tip.

Nocake - he offered to buy me a new pan, but the set was a wedding present from Mum, and I want to keep the pan! It is still useable but doesn't look very pretty.
